Alex Sandro’s form in recent months after a bright start to the 2021/22 season has all but confirmed Juventus’ need for rejuvenation at left-back.

The Brazilian, who recently cost Juve the Supercoppa Italiana with an error in the last minute of extra-time, could leave the club in the summer and the Bianconeri will need a replacement. The streaky Luca Pellegrini has provided a spark down the left this term but his viability as Sandro’s long-term successor is yet to be known.

The versatile Mattia De Sciglio is also an option at left-back but, once again, he’s not a long-term solution.

Juve have been linked with several players over the past year, including Lucas Digne, Owen Wijndal and Ramy Bensebaini, and a new target has recently surfaced.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio (via @JuveFC), Juventus are tracking 21-year-old Genoa full-back Andrea Cambiaso.

Cambiaso is enjoying a breakout season in Liguria after spending several seasons out on loan and alongside Juve loanee Nicolo Rovella, he’s been one of the bright sparks in a dismal season for Genoa. The Italian Under-21 international has four assists and one goal in 21 Serie A appearances this term.

The Italian, who is a dynamic and progressive ball-carrier, is yet to sign a contract renewal with Genoa and his current contract expires in the summer of 2023. Thus, Juventus could make a move this summer and prise away Cambiaso for a minimal fee – presuming he doesn’t renew his contract before then. The club’s potential relegation to Serie B only hands the Bianconeri greater leverage in negotiations.

Juventus have held an interest in Cambiaso for quite some time now, with initial speculation suggesting the club could use young midfielder Filippo Ranocchia in a potential swap deal.

Nevertheless, Juve’s interest in the talented young left-back is further evidence of their alteration in transfer policy. The club desperately wants to get younger to aid the rebuilding process and should Cambiaso arrive in the summer, both he and Pellegrini represent exciting and fresh full-back options.
