The man to pip Vlahovic to the post is, of course, Matthijs de Ligt.

It’s easily forgotten that this Viking is only 22 years of age because he plays like a seasoned veteran that’s won it all. De Ligt boasts an aura that very few possess at his position and there’s little doubting that he should be considered among the very best in Europe.

He’s putting together a tremendous season in Turin and his resilience at the back will be crucial in Juve securing a top-four finish, and potentially going deep into the Champions League this season.

The odd positional error and moments of misjudgement – see Dani Parejo’s equaliser for Villarreal – depict that De Ligt isn’t quite yet the finished product. But that’s a frightening prospect for rival supporters. This guy, who’s probably pocketed the striker you worship, can only get better. Seriously!?

De Ligt’s just brilliant, and some might say that securing his services for the long haul should be the club’s priority this summer. For now, though, let’s just enjoy him, eh?
