Federico Bernardeschi is yet to pen a contract extension with Juventus and the club are hesitant to meet the Italian’s demands.
Bernardeschi had endured an indifferent few years in Turin before this season, where his value as a versatile squad member has become clear. The wide midfielder put together his best month of football in Bianconeri colours last December but injuries have since plagued his start to 2022.
The former Fiorentina man missed the entirety of February before returning last weekend as a substitute in Juve’s slender victory over Spezia. However, Bernardeschi quickly picked up his fifth yellow card of the Serie A season which means that he’ll miss the upcoming domestic clash against Sampdoria.
His recent absence has once again cast doubt over his Juventus future. Following his stellar end to 2021, many would’ve been content with the club extending the Italian international’s contract, but his current situation has been described as “complicated”.
Juventus are hesitant to match Federico Bernardeschi’s contract demands
We’re approaching the time when Juventus are starting to negotiate with players whose contracts are expiring in the summer. Paulo Dybala is the most significant name on that list, and his future is certainly up in the air, but the other four players have all played their part for Massimiliano Allegri’s side this season.
Regarding Bernardeschi, Juventus are willing to extend the 28-year-old but they’re currently offering the player a reduced salary to continue in Turin.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport’s Giovanni Albanese (via @JuveFC), Juve are offering Bernardeschi a new three-year contract worth €2.5m-a-year plus bonuses. He currently earns a €4m salary and is demanding a five-year extension.
The Italian is said to be keen on renewing with the Old Lady, but he does have offers from elsewhere.
Despite his upsurge in form towards the end of last year, Juventus are right to hesitate regarding Bernardeschi’s demands. The Italian has proved himself to be a useful member of the Bianconeri this season, with his versatility admired by the manager, but is he worth a five-year extension?
Absolutely not.
