Juventus have identified Lille’s Renato Sanches as another midfield target this summer and they could make contact with the French club before the end of March over a possible transfer.

Despite adding the likes of Arthur Melo, Weston McKennie and, more recently, Manuel Locatelli and Denis Zakaria to their ranks since 2020, Juve are planning to bolster their midfield once again this summer. Arthur and Adrien Rabiot could depart and their sales would open up one or two doors for new arrivals.

However, Juve’s plan thus far appears a little haphazard. The profiles of reported midfield targets differ. Do the Bianconeri want to sign a regista to replace Arthur or more of a mezzala to mitigate against Rabiot’s potential exit?

Perhaps they’re attempting to sign one of each.

Portuguese international Sanches certainly fits the mezzala mould. He’s a physical, skilful and versatile midfielder who has dazzled for large swathes at Lille following miserable spells at Bayern Munich and Swansea City.

According to Romeo Agresti, he’s one of several midfielders Juventus have an eye on and they could make contact with the Ligue 1 holders by the end of March over a possible summer move.

However, Sanches has multiple admirers and acquiring him this summer will be no easy task. Premier League outfits Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle are all reportedly interested, as are Juve’s Serie A rivals AC Milan. It’d be a move that aligns with the Rossoneri’s transfer market savvy as they’re poised to lose Franck Kessie on a free transfer this summer.

Juve, though, won’t be too concerned by their competition because various reports suggest they have a plethora of targets lined up. Those include Paul Pogba, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Davide Frattesi for the mezzala role and Chelsea’s Jorginho for the regista function.
