Juventus’ Paulo Dybala and manager Massimiliano Allegri reportedly engaged in a tense dispute over training schedules ahead of the upcoming Serie A clash with Salernitana.
The Bianconeri desperately need to bounce back before the international break after they crashed out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion (again) following a 3-0 defeat to Villarreal in Wednesday’s second leg.
Dybala returned to action after a month out in the defeat, but he was almost powerless to aid Juve’s cause after Gerard Moreno gave Villarreal the crucial lead from the spot with 15 minutes remaining.
La Joya is yet to pen a contract extension with the club despite reaching an agreement last autumn. Juve backed out of the deal, and it appears increasingly likely that Dybala will depart Turin on a free transfer this summer.
Juventus CEO Maurizio Arrivabene admits Juventus agreed a deal with Paulo Dybala but ‘things changed’
Dybala’s agent, Jorge Antun, is set to discuss his client’s situation with Juve once again very soon. Juventus’ CEO Maurizio Arrivabene recently confirmed (via Football Italia) that the club had struck a deal with the Argentine “but things changed”.
La Joya’s persistent injury woes surely deterred Juve from offering the player such a lucrative long-term deal.
The club were set to discuss Dybala’s contract with Antun earlier this month before opting to delay talks until the March international break. Ahead of the second leg defeat, Arrivabene said it was “almost ridiculous” to be discussing new contracts at what he described as a “delicate” point in the season.
Dybala & Max Allegri involved in tense training dispute
The situation may have taken a turn for the worst on Friday with reports emerging of a training ground dispute between Dybala and manager Max Allegri.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Football Italia), Dybala and Juan Cuadrado asked the boss for greater respite in the pre-match training schedule for Sunday’s game with Salernitana.
The request unsurprisingly didn’t go down well with Allegri in the wake of their Champions League defeat and the discussion quickly got heated, per the report.
I’m sure we’ll see just how significant the argument was on Sunday when Juventus’ starting XI is announced. Dybala is in contention for his first start since the Derby della Mole.
