Dusan Vlahovic has pulled out of the Serbia squad with a groin injury and will return to Turin to carry out recovery work.

Vlahovic added to his Serie A tally at the weekend and drew level with Ciro Immobile at the top of the Capocannoniere charts with 21 goals. The Serb headed home Mattia De Sciglio’s cross to double Juventus’ advantage in their 2-0 victory over Salernitana on Sunday.

While the 22-year-old has gone scoreless in seven of his 11 Juve appearances since joining the club in January, he’s made a distinct impression in Turin and his performance on Sunday was indicative of his multi-faceted nature. Vlahovic contributes much more than just goals, and the Juventus hierarchy have placed a huge amount of faith in him.

On Monday evening, Juve CEO Maurizio Arrivabene hinted that the club are okay with Paulo Dybala departing on a free transfer in the summer due to the arrival of Vlahovic in the winter. They firmly believe that the prolific marksman is the new leader of their project.

Dusan Vlahovic suffers injury scare while away on international duty

Vlahovic’s availability has been super impressive in his young career up to this point. He’s been absent for just one game since he broke through at Fiorentina in 2018 and that was because he was in quarantine.

Injuries are yet to plague the marvellous forward, but he’s picked up a minor issue while away on international duty with Serbia.

Romeo Agresti reported on Monday that the 22-year-old is suffering from “minor discomfort in the groin” and has left the Serbia camp as a result. He’ll return to Turin and undergo recovery work with the Juventus medical staff. However, his exit from the Serbia squad for their upcoming friendlies against Hungary and Denmark is believed to be precautionary.

Thus, his status for the Derby d’Italia at the start of April currently isn’t in doubt.
