Despite Italy’s recent failure to qualify for back-to-back World Cups, the Juventus hierarchy are plotting to overhaul the Bianconeri with several Azzurri stars this summer.

Roberto Mancini’s European champions were bounced out of Qatar 2022 in stunning fashion on Thursday night as a stoppage-time Alexsandar Trajkovski strike from distance helped North Macedonia to a 1-0 win in their playoff semi-final. For the Azzurri, it was an embarrassment that rivalled the defeats to North Korea and Sweden in 1966 and 2017 respectively.

Juventus superstar Federico Chiesa proved a costly absence as Giorgio Chiellini, who appeared as a late substitute, was the only Bianconeri representative in Thursday night’s humiliation.

As a result of the defeat, the idea of overhauling the Juve squad with several members of the national team won’t exactly excite the Bianconeri faithful.

Domenico Berardi, for example, has been chastised for his role in the defeat – missing a gilt-edged chance in the first half – and many, right now, can’t bear the thought of the Sassuolo man replacing Paulo Dybala next season. Berardi, along with teammate Giacomo Raspadori and AS Roma’s Nicolo Zaniolo, are believed to be the leading Serie A candidates to succeed La Joya in Turin.

Juve, though, have several areas they want to upgrade before the 2022/23 campaign and Tuttosport (via @JuveFC) writes that Alex Sandro and Arthur Melo are two players that could make way. In their places, the club have supposedly identified Emerson Palmieri and Jorginho as potential targets.

Juve’s interest in regista Jorginho is well-documented, but I’m not convinced the Chelsea midfielder is a huge upgrade over Arthur despite all the individual accolades he collected last year. He’s a poor athlete who has struggled as of late for the Blues.

In addition, Juve are still involved in the race to sign Sassuolo midfielder Davide Frattesi. Frattesi wasn’t involved in Thursday’s melodrama but he’s a sure bet to be a fixture of the Azzurri squad moving forward.

The Nicolo Barella regen is enjoying a stellar season at the Mapei and has been courted by Serie A’s best. Juve, Inter and Roma are all fighting for the 22-year-old’s signature this summer.
