Juventus looked – for much of the match – as though they would take three points from Genoa after Paulo Dybala gave them a second-half lead.

Yet that would prove an unwise conclusion to draw by the end of the match. Genoa would come back and win 2-1 thanks to mistakes by the Juventus backline that left Massimiliano Allegri seething. While this team is in the Champions League next season, Friday night was further proof that serious changes must be made when the summer transfer window reopens.

There were opportunities like the one that Paulo Dybala created and executed, but other players were not as up to the challenge as the departing Argentine was today. While it will cause little more than embarrassment for all of the involved Bianconeri, it will be a greater headache should it persist into next season.

Here are the Juventus player ratings from Friday night’s defeat

Goalkeepers & Defenders

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) – 4/10 – Was not terrible but could not save the match when mistakes from his defensive front left him vulnerable either.

Juan Cuadrado (RB) – 2/10 – Not a great game for the right-back, and one that all in Turin will be surely wishing to forget. Sloppy with the ball and ineffective in both his offensive and defensive roles.

Leonardo Bonucci (CB) – 5/10 – The legend was not great today but made blocks when necessary. Always been a pillar of leadership, but he needs more talent around him at this stage of his career.

Daniele Rugani (CB) – 5/10 – Looked fine for most of the match. Passed well and seemed well connected to his teammates. Took a silly yellow card but is always a good depth play for Juve.

Mattia De Sciglio (CB) – 1/10 – Responsible for, in some manner, each goal that was scored late in the match, De Sciglio did not cover himself with glory at all in this one. His position will be appraised this summer as well, undoubtedly.
