Juventus will sign Moise Kean permanently this summer after the forward was initially brought in on a two-year loan deal from Everton.
Kean joined late last summer as a ‘replacement’ for Cristiano Ronaldo, who stunningly opted to reunite with Manchester United after the 2021/22 Serie A season had gotten underway.
The Italian had endured a torrid time of it on Merseyside, but he impressed out on loan at Paris Saint-Germain last season and had broken through under Massimiliano Allegri at Juventus.
However, it’s been a difficult campaign for Kean, whose woes continued on Friday night as the Bianconeri fell to a 2-1 defeat to Genoa. With minutes remaining, the young forward missed a gilt-edge chance to double Juve’s advantage and put the game to bed before the hosts staged a late comeback.
Juventus will sign Moise Kean permanently this summer despite his struggles this season
Juventus negotiated a two-year loan deal with Everton to bring Kean back to Turin that also included a €28m obligation to buy.
And despite his struggles this season, Fabrizio Romano writes that Juve will buy the Italian international permanently at the end of the campaign. Kean has scored just five times in Serie A on his return to the club, and has rarely been used by Allegri since Dusan Vlahovic joined in January – often being limited to cameo appearances off the bench.
The club’s vice-president, Pavel Nedved, though, is bullish on Kean, saying on Friday: “Moise Kean? We want him to score 25 goals per season, he has a huge potential”
While Kean has promise, with his recent winner against Sassuolo an indication of the moments he can produce, he boasts fundamental flaws that limit him severely. The Italian’s technique is sub-par, which means unforced errors are frequent. He struggles playing with his back to goal, while his ball-striking is inconsistent.
Thus, Juventus are taking a huge punt on Kean by signing him permanently considering their needs in other positions. The move might also suggest that they’re not hopeful of Alvaro Morata returning following his two-year loan.
The Bianconeri are trying to negotiate with Atletico to bring the Spaniard back for 2022/23 and beyond.
