Juventus is set to take on Portuguese side Sporting in the quarterfinals of the Europa League.

This will prove to be Juve’s toughest test of the tournament. In their previous two rounds, the club had to take on Nantes and SC Freiburg. While these clubs sometimes perform well in their domestic leagues, they rarely do damage in European competition. Sporting, however, is a stronger club with a more decorated history.

Sporting is coming off of a thrilling series against Premier League leading side Arsenal. They advanced in the round after going to penalties and sending the English giants home.

Sporting is currently sitting in 4th place in their domestic league. The club’s huge victory over Arsenal will make them feel like they have some momentum going into their two-leg matchup against Juve.

Juve, on the other hand, is coming off of a pretty comfortable series win against SC Freiburg.

Juventus advanced to the quarterfinals 3-0 on aggregate. Dusan Vlahovic and Federico Chiesa scored yesterday to expand their lead after a 1-0 match in the first leg against the German side. They were able to advance despite missing Leonardo Bonnuci, Alex Sandro, and Paul Pogba due to new injuries they sustained in the last few weeks.

Juventus will surely emerge as the early favorite to advance in this on. Yet, Sporting is a quality club that could surprise the Bianconeri. Juventus will have to make sure that they get their players fit and that they don’t take Sporting too lightly if they want to ensure a place in the semi-finals.
