Juventus has made their first splash of the summer bringing in American international Tim Weah to bolster the attack.

According to ESPN, Weah is set to join the Bianconeri for €12 million. The 23-year-old will add to Juve’s attacking punch and be a solid compliment to Dusan Vlahovic (assuming he stays in Turin) and Federico Chiesa. It would make sense for him to take the spot of departing Angel Di Maria.

If you look at the stat sheet, it may look like Weah had a down year last season. He played in 29 matches and didn’t score. He also only racked up 2 assists. This is in part due to the fact that Weah was consistently played out of position. Lille asked him to play a wing-back role often, forcing him to stay back in the attacking game. While he was competent in that role, that is not his natural position. Juve should focus on bringing

With the United States Men’s National Team, Weah plays primarily on the wing although there have been times when he has slotted into a striker role. The most important thing for Weah is his speed so Juve will need to find the right spot for him to maximize his pace.

Tim Weah is a great signing for a number of reasons. He adds much-needed pace to the Bianconeri side and is a young player with tons of potential to grow.

Overall, this looks like a great move for Juve. They signed a talented young player who still has a lot of upside. They also didn’t break the bank for him and should be able to add to their attack at a discount price. If they can work Weah back into the attacking third where he belongs, he could be a great piece to spark Juve’s attack.
