3 former Serie A stars that could tempt cash-strapped Juventus

As Juve clearly are being frugal when it comes to incoming transfers, there are a handful of suitable Italian top-flight free agents for the Bianconeri to consider.

Juve head coach Igor Tudor has a lengthy list of summer transfer targets from former sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli. The names of fallen superstars at high cost as well as emerging stars were generated. Yet there's a plethora of out of contract former internationals who could fit the bill for one season.

Alessandro Florenzi, who missed 41 games on the spin since his cruciate ligament tear 12 months ago, left AC Milan after four years at the club.

It was decided during the winter transfer market that the 34-year-old versatile defender, who favors playing at right-back but can also be implemented in midfield, would leave Milan as part of the club's restructuring plans.

Former Juve manager Max Allegri took over the reins at the San Siro, and is keen to acquire a handful of players from the Turin titans such as Fabio Miretti and  wantaway striker Dusan Vlahovic.

Alessandro Florenzi personality

Florenzi, who made 280 appearances in a Rossoneri jersey, picked up silverware at Milan by clinching the 2021/22 Serie A crown. Despite being sidelined by serious injury, he collected a 2024/25 Supercoppa Italia medal.

The former AS Roma player, who chalked up 49 international caps for Italy, is a big personality in the dressing room and could be a brilliant influence on any Juventus Next Gen stars who get promoted to the senior side.

Luka Jovic firepower

Serbia striker Luka Jovic became a free agent after Milan chose not to activate the option to extend his contract.

The 27-year-old former Real Madrid ace has been linked with a move to Mexican giants Cruz Azul, the reigning CONCACAF Champions Cup winners, who are willing to fork out €4.3 million (US$5m) a season on a two-year deal.

Jovic’s prolific 2018/19 campaign at Eintracht Frankfurt, notching 27 goals in 48 games, resulted in a big-money move to Real. He is the second-most expensive Serbian soccer player behind Vlahovic.

He failed to hit the same heady heights at Real, returned to Frankfurt before heading to Serie A and scoring 13 goals apiece for Fiorentina and Milan.

Jovic would be suited as a secondary striker behind with lethal goal poacher Jonathan David. This role should have suited Paris Saint-Germain loanee Kolo Muani alongside Vlahovic last term, but that partnership was only tested once.

The imposing physical presence of Jovic, who could also be implemented on either wing, would be an asset in the Italian top tier as long as he was receiving service.

The Bianconeri failed miserably to provide the ball to Vlahovic last season, under both Thiago Motta and Tudor, which urgently needs addressing alongside generating more chances through set-pieces.

Rafael Toloi sagacity

At the other end of the pitch Juve could do with some experience. Center-back Rafael Toloi left Atalanta after a decade, and is already contemplating a move to Turin but with Juve’s city rivals Torino. Villarreal are also showing keen interest.

Toloi, born and raised in Brazil, has spent most of his career in Serie A. He joined Roma in 2014 and moved to Atalanta a year later. He opted to represent Italy and made his debut for the Azzurri in 2021.

The 34-year-old signed off his career for the Bergamo club as captain, having scored 14 goals from his 313 appearances.

Experienced internationals that are low-cost recruits could help Tudor on a short-term basis, as he gradually bloods in youngsters.
