Defender Andrea Cambiaso and midfielder made brief appearances for the Bianconeri during the slender 1-0 Serie A success in Sardinia on Sunday, when Dusan Vlahovic notched the winner.

With head coach Thiago Motta experiencing a staggering 27 different injuries to his squad so far this season, the fact that he has guided them to fourth place in the league with just one defeat makes impressive reading.

Defensive duo Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal are both sidelined with season-ending ACL injury. Striker Arkadiusz Milik has suffered setbacks with calf problems since June.

On top of these long-term absentees, Motta is missing center-backs Pierre Kalulu and Renato Veiga with muscle injuries and right-back Nicolo Savona has a thigh strain.

There will be further tests at the J Medical Centre in Turin on Cambiaso and Luiz to elaborate the extent of their knocks.

The 73rd-minute was a significant moment against Cagliari. Cambiaso limped off and was replaced by Jonas Rouhi, while Luiz was introduced for the ineffective Teun Koopmeiners.

Yet Luiz only lasted nine minutes before he hobbled off the pitch, with Samuel Mbangula taking over his role.

Motta explained during his post-match press conference: “[Andrea] Cambiaso has some adductor fatigue, but his ankle is better.

“With Douglas [Luiz] we decided together. We risked him because he has no injuries. He didn't finish the game, it's a pity because he's a guy who wants to do well.”

Cambiaso picked up an ankle injury against Bologna last year, although suffered ankle problems when he turned out for Genoa. He remains high on Manchester City’s summer transfer wishlist.
