Financial gap stalls Juventus star’s potential switch to France

Although an agreement between Juventus and Olympique Marseille is nearly over the line, the clubs are still haggling.

Igor Tudor is waiting to offload some outcasts before he can dip further into the transfer market to add to his recent three acquisitions.

Juventus have slapped a price tag of €20 million (US$23.5m) on their unwanted right winger Timothy Weah, but OM remain €5m (US$5.9m) million short of that valuation.

Weah is keen to join former Juventus managerial Roberto De Zerbi at OM, but a potential deal has stalled over the price.

Agent intervenes for possible switch

The player’s agent is expected to arrive in Turin to help mediate between the parties, as OM appear adamant on not forking out more than their perceived valuation of the United States international.

Should there be no solution agree, Juventus are content to keep Weah although former Juve boss Max Allegri could try to lure the 25-year-old to American-owned AC Milan.

Weah, who almost joined Atletico Madrid instead of Juventus from LOSC Lille two years ago, was offered to Nottingham Forest last month during the cash-rich Club World Cup.

Double deal disaster

Juve were willing to sell Weah and Belgium U21 star Samuel Mbangula in a double deal. A €25m (US$29.4m) agreement was in place, but the players’ agents rejected the move. Left winger Mbangula has since switched teams, with the Juventus Next Gen ace signing for SV Werder Bremen.

As the Bianconeri are no longer desperate to sell Weah, there are a plethora of Premier League clubs monitoring his situation that include Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and newly-promoted Leeds United.

Weah scored five goals in 30 Serie A appearances last term, proving an invaluable player under both Thiago Motta and Tudor. He was a real breath of fresh air for the Bianconeri, having previously struggled under Allegri.
