Juventus join the chase for Argentina's emerging superstar

The Bianconeri are being linked with adding a young attacking midfielder to their ranks, although his high transfer fee is likely to end Juve’s interest.

Juventus sent scouts last season to check out Como’s rising talent Nico Paz last season, and have renewed their interest in the 20-year-old. Yet Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur are also keen to land the Argentina international.

Having come through the ranks at Real Madrid, the Tenerife-born versatile youngster was sold to Como last August for just €6 million (US$7m).

However, the Spanish giants inserted some clauses, which includes resigning Paz for €9m (US$10.5m) next summer or for €10m (US$11.7m) in 2027 if he still plies his trade at Como. Alternatively, the Merengues will land Paz if they can match any concrete offer that Como receive.

Paz’s debut season in Serie A was smooth sailing, as Como surpassed all expectations to finish 10th on their return to the Italian top tier after a three-year hiatus. He found the back of the net six times and made eight goal assists from 35 Serie A appearances.

His impressive campaign under the guidance of head coach Cesc Fabregas prompted speculation that Paz would probably return to Real Madrid in June, but nothing materialized.

Spurs' bid for Paz dismissed

Tottenham’s bid of €40m (US$46.8m) was rejected at the beginning of August, with Como refusing to let Paz leave for under a whopping €70m (US$82m) that seemingly prices him out of Juve’s reach.

Como have bolstered their squad during this summer, and could be the surprise package this term with Paz set to be one of their shining stars. He needs to be competing at a high level as he is on the radar of Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni, who arrive at next year’s FIFA World Cup finals as defending champions.
