The month-long tournament becomes the Croatian first set of matches as Juventus permanent head coach, and his goal is to make an instant impression.

He was recently rewarded with a two-year contract as permanent manager for guiding the Bianconeri to a Champions League, although was arguably the club’s second choice after Napoli chief Antonio Conte.

Juventus were snubbed by both their former manager Conti, who guided Napoli to the Scudetto last term, and Gian Piero Gasperini who moved from Atalanta to AS Roma.

Tudor was the Plan C rather than Plan B. Juve had also sounded out installing Roberto Mancini, who had impressed with the Italy national team, and ex-Barcelona boss Xavi.

Now that Tudor has determinedly pushed through a deal to be promoted from a nine-game stint at interim head coach, his first matches will be a tough task. He has decided to bring a plethora of Juventus Next Gen players to the tournament in the sweltering head of the United States.

Trio of tests

They kick-off their Club World Cup group games against UAE giants Al-Ain FC. Play Morocco team Wydad AC before facing defending champions Manchester City.

It was originally going to make-or-break at the highly-lucrative for Tudor, but he swerved a delay following his outburst at the end of the Serie A season and talks with the club owners.

Tudor explained at the pre-match press conference: “I’m happy to coach Juve. After signing the renewal of my contract I was very happy, but the happiness lasted a moment… I was already thinking about what to do to win the next match.

Game by game

“There is only one way to take on the challenges that await in this tournament, thinking game by game. We have respect for everyone, these are the best teams in the world.

“There is great enthusiasm in the team, we have worked well and we want to do well. We must focus only on our performance and the tasks to complete to achieve our goals.

“When Juve participates, it does so to win. Then we will see how it goes. We must focus on ourselves, we will decide our own destiny.”
