The Bianconeri travel to Holland with the upper hand when tackling next week’s Champions League play-off second leg, following their battling 2-1 success.
Head coach Thiago Motta constantly switched players, which finally produced a positive result to put Juve closer to a last 16 tie.
After Weston McKennie scored in the first half, PSV grabbed an equaliser against the run of play just before the hour-mark through Croatia reference Ivan Perisic. There was more last-gasp drama for Juventus, with the second-half substitute slotting home on 82 minutes.
Old Juve’s Player Ratings
Starting XI:
Michele Di Gregorio – 6.5
Not his best performance, looking edgy whenever there was any danger. Should have prevented Perisic’s equaliser at the near post.
Timothy Weah – 7.5
Rapid runs down the wings followed by telling crosses from the right-back made him a constant threat.
Federico Gatti – 8.5 (Old Juve Man of the Match)
Rock solid in defence and, courtesy of his rare attacking run, set up McKennie’s goal.
Renato Veiga – 8
Already a favourite with the Curva Sud. The loanee plays with composure and is usually the winner in one-to-one situations.
Lloyd Kelly – 5
Wily Perisic outwitted the left-back to snatch the equaliser. The newest Juve player was far from impressive for the Turin giants.
Manuel Locatelli – 6.5
The skipper was hauled off because he lacked his usual cutting edge for patient build-ups. Won most physical duels.
Douglas Luiz – 7.5
Given the nod to start over Teun Koopmeiners and simply oozed with confidence on the big stage. Creative play and accurate passing.
Nicolas Gonzalez – 4
Fluffed two headed chances to score due to lack of power. Had an off day at the office, so he was replaced.
Weston McKennie – 8
Attacking midfielder never stopped pressing. His thunderbolt on the half volley was spectacular, and he worked relentlessly.
Kenan Yildiz – 5
Failed to live up to hype, with a very quiet 45 minutes and no spark. Was replaced during the interval.
Kolo Muani – 5.5
Having bagged five goals in his first three Serie A games, he was expected to find the net again. Man-marked out of the match.
Substitutes:
Samuel Mbangula – 7
Inspired replacement for Yildiz, and made a big difference down the left wing. Rifled in the winner by reacting swiftly to the error.
Francisco Conceicao – 7
After coming on Gonzalez he commanded the right flank. Set up the winning goal following the ‘keeper’s mistake.
Teun Koopmeiners – 4.5
Stuttering display from the out-of-form Dutch man, who has failed to shine with Juve like he did at Atalanta for three seasons.
Khephren Thuram – 6.5
Boosted the midfield on his arrival, and helped to calm down their nerves as the Turin giants chased a winner.
Dusan Vlahovic – 6
A late cameo appearance in place of Kolo Muani, who was marked by two players throughout. Failed to fire a shot on target, but at least he was unleashed.
