What’s at stake

Juventus fans inside the Allianz Stadium last witnessed a home victory on 13 September, courtesy of a last-gasp winner in the seven-goal Derby d'Italia thriller over Inter Milan. Since then Milan have proved they are Scudetto contenders, while Juve have stuttered along so badly that Igor Tudor has been given the boot as head coach.

Tudor could not seem to make up his mind about his ideal starters and substitutes, which came across as haphazard tactics with aimless switches. Juve's expensively assembled strikeforce of Jonathan David, Lois Openda and Dusan Vlahovic have been unable to score for 394 minutes.

Massimo Brambilla is the interim Juventus manager, handed the reins while the club search for a new boss. The 52-year-old steps up from his role as Juventus Next Gen head coach, but he failed in charge at Serie C side Foggia and was promptly fired.

A winless run of eight matches by Juventus was partly to blame for Tudor being given his marching orders, and with so little time between Sunday's lame 1-0 defeat at Lazio and the visit of Udinese then Brambilla would surely be delighted with a draw.

Kosta Runjaic, the Udinese manager since June 2024, will be keen to register maximum points against the disheartened opponents that would see them leapfrog Juve and could even elevate them into sixth spot.

Recent form

Supersub Vlahovic remains Juve's leading scorer this term, having netted four goals after arriving off the bench. David and Openda were toothless at Lazio, with neither player having adapted to Serie A.

Five stalemates followed by a hat-trick of defeats was too much for the Juventus hierarchy to stomach, especially with Tudor getting too big for his boots by getting into a rift with general manager Damien Comolli and unrest suddenly appearing among the squad.

This is a chance for Juventus to get scoring again as Udinese possess a leaky defense, and last kept a clean sheet in their mid-September triumph over struggling Pisa.

Udinese conceded three goals against AC Milan and Sassuolo to slip down the Serie A table. They followed these defeats with back-to-back 1-1 draws to Cagliari and Cremonese before toppling Lecce 3-2.

Head-to-head

Juventus have scored over 200 goals from their 108 meetings, with 72 triumphs and just 14 defeats to Udinese, with 22 matches ending all square.

Juve have won four of their past five clashes with Udinese, their only slip up was the 1-0 home defeat in February 2024. Vlahovic has bagged three goals and set up one in his past four games against Udinese.

Team news

Shotstopper Carlos Pinsoglio (leg), defensive duo Gleison Bremer (knee) and Juan Cabal (thigh), midfielder Edon Zhegrova (leg) plus striker Arkadiusz Milik (muscle) are Juve’s sidelined players.

Italy international Manuel Locatelli will captain the Bianconeri, having recently been controversially dropped against Real Madrid following his cheeky Instagram post that is now forgotten. Keeper Mattia Perin should get another run out as no1 choice Michele Di Gregorio is rested once more

Vlahovic, who last netted for Serbia against minnows Andorra in their World Cup qualifier, should lead the attack with either David or Openda as a second striker. While Turkish talent Kenan Yildiz could be rested following his knee knock while on international duty, to be introduced in the second half.

Udinese possess a solid midfield, which creates scoring chances for forwards Keinan Davis and Nicolo Zaniolo to test out Juve's unsure back line. The visitors have keeper Alessandro Nunziante (bruises), defender Thomas Kristensen (hamstring) and striker Iker Bravo (foot) on the treatment table.

Expected line-ups

Juventus possible starting XI:

Perin - Gatti, Kelly, Kalulu - Thuram, Koopmeiners, Locatelli - McKennie, Conceicao - Openda, Vlahovic

Udinese possible starting XI:

Okoye - Solet, Kabasele, Goglichidze - Zanoli, Ekkelenkamp, Atta, Karlstrom, Kamara - Zaniolo, Davis

Old Juve prediction

Juventus 1 Udinese 1

There's unlikely to be any new manager bounce with Brambilla taking over, and as his recent run with the Juventus Next Gen has been poor in recent weeks then he should be going for damage limitation.

The Friulians have the upper hand mentality, with Juve wounded by their dreadful run as well as losing their leader Tudor, although Runjaic has yet to record a midweek victory for Udinese.

Despite Juve being superior man-for-man in terms of ability and skills, they have yet to show the desire to return to winning ways although enjoyed two six-minute spells at the start and end of the Lazio defeat on Sunday.
