The Uruguay international is firmly on the radar of the Turin titans, should Juventus be able to cash in on exiled forward Dusan Vlahovic during the summer.
Nunez, part of Arne Slot’s constant rotation at Liverpool this season, has bagged four English Premier League goals in 19 appearances.
As he has only started seven games this term, he was the subject of two bids from Saudi Pro League club Al-Nassr during the recent winter transfer window. Liverpool turned down a figure believed to be €74.4 million (US$78.2m), as the premier league leaders didn’t have a successor lined up.
There is uncertainty surrounding Vlahovic, Juve’s top scorer this season, who has fallen out of favour under head coach Thiago Motta since December.
Kolo Muani arrived on loan from Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, and has made an instant impact by scoring in all three Serie A games. He is getting the nod to start matches, leaving Serbian star Vlahovic to warm the bench although he did come on as a late substitute for Juve’s last Champions League tie against PSV Eindhoven.
Vlahovic has been courted by English teams before, turning down the overtures from Arsenal three years ago to sign for Juventus from Fiorentina.
He is on the radar of Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. His transfer high fee and wage demands put the trio of teams off from making a bid during the last transfer window.
United could tempt Juve into a straight swap for forward Joshua Zirkzee, who played under Motta at Bologna before signing for the Red Devils last July, which would scupper a move for Nunez.
Nunez, who was Liverpool’s record signing at €102m (US$1017.1m) from Benfica in 2022, will cost the Bianconeri the same amount as the money the club can potentially collect for Vlahovic.
