A stoppage time first-half strike from Atalanta's Kamaldeen Sulemana was cancelled out by a rare goal from Juan Cabal inside the sold-out Allianz Stadium today.
It was a very different ending to the match than the start, when it looked like a highly disheartened bench for the showdown between two Champions League sides coached by a wily Croatian.
Speculation in the Italian media about Juventus desperate to cash-in on star striker Dusan Vlahovic must have been unsettling for the 25-year-old, who has been a brilliant supersub this season but still is not a fan favorite in Turin.
Others warming the bench, such as Cabal, Jonathan David, Manuel Locatelli, Joao Mario, Weston McKennie and Daniele Rugani, had fallen down the pecking order following back-to-back defeats.
Francisco Conceicao, who was still feeling unwell this morning, was replaced by 19-year-old Vasilije Adzic with Teun Koopmeiners in place of regular skipper Locatelli and Lois Openda given a starting berth.
Juve's strong start against Atalanta
The hosts came close to taking a lead in the second minute, but Pierre Kalulu's close-range header from Kenan Yildiz's cross hit the right-hand post. Less than a 100 seconds later, keeper Marco Carnesecchi saved Koopmeiners' effort and on 17 minutes prevented Adzic's long-range shot.
Atalanta bounced back into the contest only for a cluster of close misses before Adzic and Yildiz tried their luck, with the visitors snatching a first-half stoppage goal.
Sulemana unleashed a left-footer in the first minute of added time, finding the bottom right corner past Juve shotstopper Michele Di Gregorio to send the Bianconeri trailing into the break.
With the hosts in need of shaking things up to get back into the game, head coach Igor Tudor made two sets of double substitutions with Mario, McKennie, Vlahovic and Zhegrova givene a run out.
The new faces almost made an instant impact, but Gleison Bremer's header was dealt with by Carnesecchi and the defender was replaced by Cabal.
Cabal came to the rescue
Cabal found the back of the net in under two minutes of his introduction to level matters against the run of play, which instilled long overdue life into Juventus.
Vlahovic and Kalulu should have done better with their headers, both off target, while Carnesecchi was called into late action to save shots from Koopmeiners, McKennie and Lloyd Kelly
Vlahovic failed to make it a hat-trick of scoring a Serie A goal after arriving off the bench for a share of the spoils, instead Cabal winning the title of supersub.
Juventus finished strongly, but without reward for their endeavors to remain unbeaten in their initial five league games, with Atalanta also yet to taste a league defeat this term.
