The 26-year-old center-back, who joined the Bianconeri three years ago, is on the verge of being handed a new contract. A deal is expected to be drawn up worth at least €2 million (US$2.1m) until the end of the 2029/30 season.
Gatti turned down the opportunity to join Nottingham Forest during the winter transfer window, as the Turin-born ace is a pivotal part of head coach Thiago Motta’s plans.
He briefly fell out of favour with Motta, dropped from the starting line-up with veteran Danilo taking his place in October, and sported the captain’s armband six times.
Gatti, an expert at man-marking, has made 21 Serie A starts this season and one appearance from the bench.
He is equally commanding in a three- or four-player defence. Gatti’s display against PSV Eindhoven, in the Champions League play-off first leg, saw him win the one-to-one duel with striker Luuk De Jong.
His darting run resulted in setting up the opener for Weston McKennie in the 2-1 victory, and his overall performance was so appreciated by Gatti that he received a hug from Motta.
Gatti, expected to give the Dutch champions the runaround in the second leg on Tuesday, is currently earning €1.5m (US$1.6m) a season on a contract that expires in summer 2028.
