Confirmed: Giorgio Chiellini returns to Juventus.

Juventus have announced the return of legendary club captain Giorgio Chiellini as part of the club’s back-room set-up in a statement today.

An official statement on the club’s website today confirmed the news that the 40-year old Chiellini will return to Turin, becoming the club’s Head of Football Institutional Relations.

It is a welcome return for the legendary defender, who made 561 competitive appearances over 17 years at the club, and captained them to nine Serie A titles, a Serie B title, five Coppa Italias, five Supercoppas, and two Champions League finals.

Chiellini was also instrumental on the international stage, particularly his heroics   In the Euro 2020 final against England, which saw Italy lift their second European Championship title 

Chiellini departed the club in 2022, going on to an eighteen month stint at Los Angeles FC where he won the MLS Cup and took the side to the CONCACAF Champions League Final, before retiring in December 2023.

Chiellini has since remained out the spotlight, until today when the club confirmed that he has been appointed to a managerial role focusing on relations with other clubs in Serie A and across Europe, as well as with various national team sides. 

The club have also confirmed that he will report directly to CEO Maurizio Scanavino in his new back-room role.

Giorgio’s return will see him reunite with his twin brother Claudio, who is the current  CEO of Juventus Next Gen.

“Chiellini never truly left the Bianconeri – his heart, soul and values have always remained connected to the club, both on and off the field.

“As of September 16, he will serve as Head of Football Institutional Relations.

“Giorgio will report directly to CEO Maurizio Scanavino, representing the club in his new managerial role.

“His academic background complements his experience as a player, captain and Juventus legend.

“Welcome back home, Giorgio!”

While what Chiellini’s day-to-day duties are will become clearer over time, the return of a club icon in an ambassadorial role can only bring joy to the hearts of Juventus fans across the globe.
