Fiorentina hold out for 'right circumstances' before selling Juventus, Newcastle-linked player
By Eduardo Razo
Juventus is attempting to bolster its attack in these final days of the summer transfer window, and its eyes are set on Fiorentina forward Nicolás González. However, a club chief for I Viola stated that they are standing firm on what they want for the player.
González has been in the transfer rumor mill this summer as top clubs aside from Juventus are also keen on the player. HITC reported on Thursday that Atalanta and Newcastle United have reached out to Fiorentina about González, but he’s made it clear that he only wants to move to Turin.
Moreover, journalist Gianluca DiMarzio reported on Thursday that a deal between Juventus and Fiorentina for the 26-year-old Argentine isn't finalized yet. DiMarzio adds that after the recent talks with Fiorentina, the terms are still not aligning.
Despite both clubs not finding common ground, the reporting does note that Juventus and Fiorentina are set to meet again on Friday with the Old Lady looking to make progress on the deal with a slight increase in their offer.
Fiorentina stand their ground for González
Amid the ongoing rumors, Fiorentina's CEO Alessandro Ferrari spoke to Sky Sport before the Serie A club's UEFA Conference League match on Thursday against Puskás Akadémia. Ferrari spoke about González and made it clear that no situation as of now satisfies the club.
“There are eight days left, and currently, the conditions aren't right for the operation," Ferrari said (h/t Gianluca Di Marzio). "We lack the necessary conditions, and we are very happy with him. We don't need to sell him. We are very calm and are waiting for the right circumstances. As for the 40 million, I don’t know.”
González joined Fiorentina in 2021 and has gone on to appear in 125 total matches for the Italian side, scoring 38 goals and registering 19 assists. The two-time Copa América winner is under contract with Fiorentina until 2028, so the club have leverage in any transfer discussions, and it will be interesting to see if any deal gets done.
