Journalist Xavier Jacobelli has suggested that Juventus might be compelled to sell either Federico Chiesa or Dusan Vlahovic to realise their transfer ambitions for the upcoming summer window. The Italian giants have grand plans to bolster their squad but are hampered by financial constraints.
Jacobelli believes that letting go of one of these key players is the only viable option for Juventus to generate the necessary funds for their desired acquisitions. He said (as quoted by Tuttojuve)
"I believe that in the summer one of Vlahovic or Chiesa must be sacrificed otherwise getting very important and expensive players will not be easy."
Over the past four years, Juventus has invested an astonishing €900 million into the club, making the generation of transfer funds a top priority. Securing a spot in the Champions League next season would provide a vital cash boost to support their summer transfer plans, which include targeting midfield reinforcements such as Atalanta's Teun Koopmeiners.
Federico Chiesa, a 26-year-old Italian winger valued at €40 million by Transfermarkt, has been the subject of transfer speculation linking him with moves to Liverpool, Newcastle United and Bayern Munich in recent windows.
Despite recovering from an ACL injury and regaining full fitness, he has managed to score 8 goals and provide 2 assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season.
On the other hand, Dusan Vlahovic, a 24-year-old Serbian striker valued at €65 million by Transfermarkt, has found the back of the net 16 times and provided 3 assists in 29 appearances this season. Juventus' record signing, Vlahovic arrived from Fiorentina for €70 million plus €10 million in add-ons in January 2022.
Juventus legend Alessio Tacchinardi has cautioned against selling promising young talents like Matias Soulé, proposing that sacrificing defender Gleison Bremer would be a better alternative. Vlahovic's form and goal-scoring numbers are on the rise, edging closer to his prolific output at Fiorentina before his move to Juventus.
However, former Juventus striker Paolo Di Canio argues that Vlahovic's potential is being stifled by Max Allegri's tactical approach and that he requires more support and space to excel.
Although Juventus has not officially expressed any intention to sell Chiesa or Vlahovic, the club's financial predicament and desire to strengthen the squad could result in the sacrifice of one of their star attackers if a substantial offer is received.
Both players would likely command significant transfer fees that could finance multiple new signings, but the decision will be a difficult one, given their youth, immense talent, and perceived importance to Juventus' long-term success.
As the summer transfer window draws near, supporters and analysts will be eagerly observing how Juventus navigates this challenging situation and whether they ultimately opt to part ways with either Chiesa or Vlahovic to fulfil their transfer objectives.
