Report: Barcelona set condition for Juventus star before moving forward with transfer pursuit
By Eduardo Razo
Federico Chiesa's time at Juventus could end in the next few days with the summer transfer deadline nearing. Amid rumors linking the Italian to FC Barcelona, the Spanish giants have reportedly made one request to the player if he wants to join them.
The 26-year-old has one more year left on his contract and this summer is likely the last time the Serie A side can secure a transfer fee unless they reach a new contract extension.
If this is the end, Juventus would be saying goodbye to a player who made 131 appearances since joining the club in 2022 while scoring 32 goals and registering 23 assists.
Chiesa has only played in Italy during his professional career, but this summer, the winger could venture abroad for the first time as he appears to be on his way out of Turin. Barcelona have been linked to Chiesa, but before any move is made, there's a request from the part of the Catalan side.
What does Barcelona want Chiesa to do before joining them?
According to Diario SPORT, a deal for the Italian forward could be finalized for €9 million plus an additional €4 million in various bonuses. However, the key for this transfer to get done falls on Chiesa.
The Spanish media outlet adds that the Euro winner must take a pay cut, dropping his salary from €5 million to €4 million. This request comes from Barcelona to meet financial fair play regulations.
Barcelona's reported demand for Chiesa to join them comes as no surprise, considering the Spanish club are having issues registering new arrival Dani Olmo. With only a few days left until the summer window closes, the Catalan side are attempting to move off players to make room for new arrivals.
İlkay Gündogan’s reported departure from Barcelona would save Barcelona the cost of his salary, which was nearly €20 million per year. Additionally, Vitor Roque’s loan move to Real Betis is almost complete which also helps the Blaugrana register their new players which might include Chiesa.
