Interim boss Tudor will be judged on how the Bianconeri fare at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup, leaving the club hierarchy’s back-up plan of sounding out potential candidates.
Juve missed out on Antonio Conte and Gian Piero Gasperini, with the club still contemplating installing former Italy chief Roberto Mancini and ex-Barcelona manager Xavi should Tudor fail in the cash-rich Club World Club.
Yet the Turin giants are eager to restore flair and glory, with little indication from Tudor’s nine-game stint since March that he can deliver both.
Tottenham Hotspur sacked Ange Postecoglou after they lifted the Europa League crown, having finished the top-flight season in their worst position for over a century.
The London club’s search for a replacement has thrown up the names of a pair of head coaches that greatly interest Juventus.
Juve have a strong desire for entertaining soccer, which has been missing for years under Max Allegri, Thiago Motta and most recently Tudor.
Both Olympique Marseille’s Roberto De Zerbi and Fulham’s Marco Silva would fit the bill, although both could be considered a gamble. After the Project Motta debacle, Juve may prefer to install a safer pair of hands.
Champions League lure
Champions League is always a temptation for managers, with both Juventus and Tottenham offering this for the 2025/26 campaign.
Italian De Zerbi signed a three-year deal for Marseille last summer, having been heavily linked with a move to Bayern Munich and Manchester United.
His incident-packed debut season at the French giants included the former Sassuolo boss being rumored to return to Serie A with Juventus.
After the 46-year-old former attacking midfielder led Marseille to the Ligue 1 runner-up spot behind big-spending champions Paris Saint-Germain, he committed himself to another campaign at the helm.
Change of heart
Yet with the Spurs hot-seat suddenly becoming available, he may fancy making a U-turn about his Marseille future although surely he would jump at the chance to join Juventus.
De Zerbi’s dynamic high-pressing, possession-based approach is similar to the attacking tactics utilized at Juve by Motta and Tudor. Neither manager set Serie A alight at Juve with this approach, so maybe a total change is required.
Although his attacking 4-2-3-1 system would suit the current Juventus squad, and his European experience with Shakhtar Donetsk equips him for the Champions League, De Zerbi does tend to display a temperamental nature from time to time.
Constant marching orders
Portuguese Silva has a proven ability to elevate teams, and at Fulham has rebuilt his reputation in England as a talented head coach following three sackings.
The 47-year-old has become a journeyman during his coaching career, which he kicked off at Estoril, sensationally steering them into the Portuguese top tier and then into the Europa League.
After retiring from playing at right-back for Estoril, Silva was appointed as director of football aged just 34. When the club axed manager Vinicius Eutropio early into the 2011/12 campaign, Silva was given the job where he proved highly successful for three years.
Start of trophy haul
He left to take the reins at Sporting Lisbon, where he won the Portuguese Cup. This was followed by a switch to Olympiacos, where he scooped the Super League Greek League title and managed in the Champions League.
His spells in England resulted in being given the boot at Everton, Hull City and Watford. He spent two seasons out of the game before he led Fulham to the Premier League, winning the 2021/22 English Championship with a free-scoring side netting over 100 goals.
Despite annually battling for a European berth, his Premier League finishes with Fulham have been 10th (2022/23), 13th (2023/24) and 11th (2024/25).
Juve's winning mentality
Silva guided the club to the last eight in the coveted FA Cup for the past two seasons, but last term’s record of just 15 victories from 38 Premier League games surely doesn’t fit the Juventus DNA of winning.
The inability to claim victories, and be satisfied with not losing, was partly to blame for Motta’s downfall and could lead to Tudor departing after the Club World Cup.
Juventus should be wary of Silva’s track record for picking up maximum points. De Zerbi’s tally of 20 victories from 34 Ligue 1 games last term is much more encouraging. If Tudor’s time is over this summer, and De Zerbi not been lured by Spurs then Juve could well renew their interest.
