Vasilije Adzic gets seal of approval from Montenegro manager

Robert Prosinecki is a big fan of the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, who could soon step up from a little-used substitute and Serie C to a starting berth for Juve.

Adzic's first call-up for Montenegro, last September's UEFA Nations League double header against Iceland and Wales, was missed because of injury. Although he still has yet to make his debut on the international stage, former Yugoslavia and Croatia ace Prosinecki believes in the teenager's talents.

Prosinecki enthused about the Juventus fringe player to Italian sports site Tuttomercatoweb, labelling him as "the future of Montenegro"

He explained: "He is certainly a very talented player. During March, he was needed by the youth team, for which he scored two goals in two qualifying matches for the European Championships.

"If he had not been in Tbilisi [Georgia], he would have been with us in the A team. He is a guy who has a great future. He is talented, very professional and he has a strong character.

"In Montenegro we believe that he is the future of our national team, and we expect a lot from him. We have a very strong team with young players who are developing, such as Vasilije Adzic and Andrija Bulatovic [18-year-old midfielder with Buducnost Podgorica on loan from Lens]."

Winner Adzic

Adzic signed for Juventus on a three-year deal last summer from Montenegrin First League outfit Buducnost Podgorica, having recently lifted the Montenegrin Cup to go with his 2022/23 league champions medal.

He was born in Niksic, the second largest city in Montenegro, in May 2006. That month was significant for Juventus with the Turin giants one of five clubs linked to the Calciopoli match-fixing scandal. The Bianconeri were stripped of their Serie A crowns for 2004/05 and 2005/06, plus were relegated to Serie B for the first time.

Adzic was initially expected to cut his teeth with the Juventus Next Gen, yet impressed Thiago Motta enough to earn a place in the senior squad. He earned his first taste of the Champions League in black and white, coming on for the final 20 minutes during the 1-0 home defeat to VfB Stuttgart.

Serie A beckons

Although Adzic has found it tough breaking into the first team, having played just 24 minutes Serie A as a substitute, he was briefly sidelined by a thigh injury last autumn. Under interim manager Igor Tudor, who recently replaced axed Motta, he could be giving a shot at making an impact.

Adzic has impressed in Serie C with the Juventus Next Gen team, scoring once and with a goal assist from his past two matches.

During the winter transfer window Genoa were turned down following their bid to take Adzic on loan until the end of the season. The club preferred to monitor his progression.

Adzic’s contract expires in June 2027, so he could be given a chance to shine under Tudor this term. With uncertainly surrounding the next permanent head coach for the 2025/26 campaign, Adzic's future could with the first team or the Bianconeri could be tempted to ship him out for a season-long loan in the summer.
