The arrival of the Portuguese 21-year-old has helped transform Juventus, and seems something of a lucky charm as every time he starts the team wins.

Juventus head coach Thiago Motta had been under pressure for orchestrating some insipid team displays, and seemingly happy that the club were becoming draw specialists.

In stepped Veiga, who has ably deputised as center-back from injured Pierre Kalulu. The former AC Milan ace slipped awkwardly during Juve’s home defeat to Benfica and sustained a thigh injury, with Veiga thrown in to fill the gap.

Although Kalulu is expected to be fit next month, it is going to be tricky for him to usurp Veiga. The Chelsea recruit has been in formidable form, and developed an understanding in defense alongside in-form Federico Gatti.

Juventus fans have been delighted by Veiga’s arrival, and given him the unusual nickname of the “new wall” on social media channels.

He’s happily marshalled the defensive backline and finished on the winning side in all four Juve appearances. Veiga even helped keep a rare clean sheet, for the all-important Serie A 1-0 success over Inter Milan.

Since Veiga has been in their ranks, the Bianconeri have been red-hot and returned to winning ways with four victories on the bounce to alleviate the pressure on Motta.

Juve dismissed the relegation-threatened duo of Empoli and Como, before a slender Champions League triumph over PSV Eindhoven and the tactically brilliant Derby D’Italia win.

While Veiga is winning praise from Motta, fans and pundits. In stark contrast Chelsea are shipping in goals, with the London club on a stuttering run with just two victories from their past nine Premier League games.

The last time that Chelsea kept a clean sheet was when Veiga was employed as center-back for their FA Cup tie, when the Blues bashed Morecambe 5-0 in early January.

Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has witnessed a downturn in fortune since Veiga departed for a short stint in Italy on 27 January. The Blues beat hapless West Ham United 2-1, but then only managed one shot on target and conceded five goals during their two defeats in the space of the week against Brighton & Hove Albion.

While Chelsea struggle and their fans question whether Maresca is the right fit, Veiga is excelling for the Turin titans.

Maresca could do with Veiga back at Stamford Bridge right now. The versatile defender only joined Chelsea from Swiss side Basel last summer, yet only made one Premier League start this season and was utilised as a left-back.

Shipped off to get minutes with Juventus, Veiga seems extremely comfortable and confident in central defense.

If Veiga is given a starting berth against PSV for the Champions League play-off second leg in the Netherlands, then the Bianconeri’s lucky charm will no doubt be expecting to score another victory in a Juve jersey.
