Even if the Bianconeri suffer defeats to these rival clubs who are in the mix to net Champions League soccer next term, the Serie A run-in appears to be favorable for Juve.
Teams vying to end the season in the top four places will tackle each other between now and the final games of the campaign on 25 May, which means Juve are in a strong position.
Juventus interim head coach Igor Tudor was set an objective to score a berth in Europe’s leading club competition. A fifth-placed finish offers Europa League action next season, with sixth position earning a spot in the Conference League qualifiers.
Tudor’s goal is going pretty much as planned as his outfit sit fourth behind table-topping Inter Milan, second-placed Napoli led by former Juve boss Antonio Conte and Atalanta.
Ex-Juventus defender Tudor kicked-off his nine match short-term contract with a 1-0 home win over mid-table Genoa.
He followed it up with a bruising 1-1 stalemate at AS Roma, and managed a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over relegation-threatened Lecce. So far so good, even if he still needs to resolve the dilemma about scoring more goals.
Juve's goal is maximum points
Juve have, at least on paper, some straightforward matches ahead for their finale with victories highly attainable. This month their opponents are lowly Monza and Parma, so six points should be on the cards.
While Inter Milan and Napoli battle it out for the Scudetto, there are seven sides bidding to clinch Champions League soccer and all the riches that go with the prestigious continental competition. AC Milan, Atalanta, AS Roma, Bologna, Fiorentina, Inter Milan and Juventus are all in with a shout of a top four finish.
They cannot all pick up all maximum points between now and the end of the Serie A season. Next weekend AC Milan tackle Atalanta while Bologna face Inter. The following week Inter host AS Roma, who have been rejuvenated under ex-Juventus head coach Claudio Ranieri.
Final month showdowns
May has three weekends of Champions League chasing teams facing each other. Fiorentina visit Roma while Tudor’s troops will go to Bologna on 4 May. Bologna have been a revelation under manager Vincenzo Italiano this term, having replaced Juve-bound Thiago Motta last summer.
Bologna have to visit Milan a week after their Juventus clash, with Tudor taking his players for a tussle at Lazio while Atalanta welcome Roma.
Things could be tight at the top of the table as teams jostle for the all-important top four positions in the penultimate weekend of the season.
The Italian capital’s side may have a say in both the league title and the Champions League berths on 11 May, when Lazio travel to Inter and Roma host Milan.
By the time the season finale takes place the results to secure European soccer could have already been determined, with Juventus visiting Venezia on 25 May. Hopefully Tudor having improved their poor record of scoring from set pieces, as he may need that edge as Venezia could require victory to avoid a drop into Serie B.
