Zealous Juventus will try to net in-demand England defender

Marc Guehi, who helped steer Crystal Palace to the 2025 FA Cup final, is now firmly on the fervent radar of the Turin titans.

The Ivory Coast-born central defender has been monitored by numerous Premier League clubs as he will soon enter the final 12 months of his contract.

With no plans to extend his deal, Palace will be aiming to cash in on the England international during the summer. They snapped him up from Chelsea for €21.1 million (US$24m), and he has excelled since swapping London clubs.

Guehi’s current price tag is a viable €47m (US$53.3m), which is attracting Chelsea, Juventus, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Nottingham Forest and Tottenham Hotspurs who are all in the chase to secure his signature.

The 24-year-old came close to joining Newcastle United last year, and could revisit a potential move to the cash-rich club. However, former Juve center-back Dean Huijsen, sold to AFC Bournemouth as he was seen as being surplus to Thiago Motta’s requirements in Turin, remains Newcastle’s top target.

Allowing Motta to have dictated about the squad has left Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli with egg on his face.

He is trying to prove his worth to the club by constantly identifying players that he believes could improve the squad. He is under the cosh for bringing in Motta as manager, which lasted nine months. Giuntoli could be in trouble if Igor Tudor, his choice as a stop gap solution for Motta, fails to earn a top four finish.

Hot seat

There remains no firm news of who will be the next permanent head coach, although much depends on who will fancy the hot seat should the Bianconeri not qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Renowned Serie A short-term troubleshooter Tudor has yet to oversee a convincing display from his five matches at the helm, with the next two games a make-or-break scenario for Juventus.

Juve will travel to the Champions League-chasing duo of Bologna and Lazio, where defeat for Tudor’s troops could end the Bianconeri’s aspirations of competing in Europe’s leading club competition.

Without the lure of playing in the top continental tournament, which is a massive money spinner, Juventus will not attract players of the calibre of Guehi plus the club will lack the financial clout.

Former Juve defender Tudor remains determined to secure Champions League soccer. If he achieves that feat then he will automatically trigger talks with the club hierarchy, with a one-year permanent contract expected to be up for grabs.

Summer wishlist

Juve are pushing for a return to their glory days, with Giuntoli ambitiously scouring available managers and top-class players in the push.

Giuntoli’s ever-increasing list of summer targets frequently includes players that leading Premier League teams are chasing, although he has singled out some lesser-known players who ply their trade in the top flight.

Giuntoli cannot afford any more transfer mistakes, having allowed Motta to call the shots about the ins and outs, or he could face the boot.

Yet convincing Guehi to join Juventus seems highly improbable, unless there’s a proven head coach announced to lead the club into the Champions League next season.
