Juventus needs to do what they can to sign Paul Pogba.

As the 2020 summer transfer window approaches, Juventus have identified midfield as their biggest area of need. Last year’s free agent signings Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot have not provided sufficient cover in the middle of the pitch, as even Rodrigo Bentancur’s encouraging 2019-2020 season wasn’t enough to make the midfield a unit of strength.

More from Old Juve

Juve must target top-drawer options. Barcelona’s Arthur Melo is on the radar but seems uninterested in leaving Camp Nou.

Sandro Tonali is another young midfielder whom Juve have been linked to, but he seems to prefer rivals Inter Milan. Maurizio Sarri wants to reunite with Jorginho, and the Chelsea ace could be a great option.

The market will be tight for Juventus, and funds will be scarce due to COVID-19, even with Serie A set to resume play in late June.

While the Bianconeri can work around this by doing swap deals – and they are already talking to Chelsea and Barcelona about swaps involving Jorginho and Arthur – it won’t be easy for them to make an upgrade.

So if they want to go for a new midfielder, they might as well go for the best of the best, especially since they can’t sign two players like they did last summer. And there is nobody better than Paul Pogba.

For the Bianconeri, Pogba’s value is well-known, and not just because he happens to be one of the biggest global stars in the game. Pogba went to a Champions League Final as a star player for Juve a few years ago and had a lot of success in Turin. Superagent Mino Raiola has even remarked that Pogba would like to return to the Serie A giants.

Even though Pogba seems to want a move away from the underperforming Manchester United to Juve, who have Champions League title ambitions after spending 100 million euros on Cristiano Ronaldo two years ago, it won’t be easy to sign him. United have to reduce their asking price now, but they know he’s a superstar player.

Juve will also have competition from Real Madrid, whom Pogba would like to join due to their incredible prestige and their three-peat Champions League-winning manager Zinedine Zidane. He isn’t the only player attracted to Real because of Zidane’s legendary status.

Despite the high cost in transfer fee and wages, Pogba is well-worth signing. He’s valued so highly by clubs because of his star power, which he’s proven time after time as a league champion and World Cup winner.

A leader who can play as a playmaker to replace Miralem Pjanic or a box-to-box midfielder, Pogba can fill any need in midfield that Sarri has. His technical quality, intelligence, and experience are top-notch, as is his professionalism. Pogba is the type of player who can transform the club, and he is worth pursuing aggressively. The price is more than justifiable, especially if Juve can find the right swap deal with the likes of Rabiot and Ramsey.
