Juventus and Barcelona will have to close a Miralem Pjanic deal quickly.

This summer, Juventus want to make sweeping upgrades to their midfield. Last year, the Bianconeri signed Adrien Rabiot and Aaron Ramsey on frees, but neither player has imposed themselves in Serie A to this point.

Rabiot could easily be playing for a new team in 2020-2021.

Either of those players could be swapped for a better midfielder, with Manchester United’s Paul Pogba being the dream target.

But Juve’s priority sale in a swap deal is Miralem Pjanic, who is no longer an ideal fit for the team despite his quality.

The deep-lying playmaker has made it clear that he wants a move to Barcelona, and La Blaugrana are interested. Unfortunately for Juve, the best possible target for a swap deal, Arthur Melo, does not want to leave, though he could be convinced.

Negotiations between Barcelona and Juventus have been developing slowly.

Barca have no interest in selling someone as valuable as Frenkie de Jong one year after buying them, but Juve have no interest in acquiring Arturo Vidal or Ivan Rakitic.

They would make Juve’s midfield even worse.

According to a report from MARCA, Pjanic only wants to join Barcelona.

The Bianconeri have imposed a deadline on La Blaugrana, so if they can’t give Juve an acceptable offer until June 30, it won’t matter that they’ve already agreed on personal terms with Pjanic. No deal will happen.

However, that deadline might be meaningless if Pjanic only wants to go to Barcelona. If he’s rejected terms with PSG or Chelsea, dreams of a Pjanic/Jorginho or Pjanic/Paredes swap deal won’t matter. There won’t be any alternatives for the Old Lady of Turin, simply because Pjanic will block a deal from happening.

Next. Paul Pogba is worth it. dark

Pjanic to Barca seems contingent on Arthur’s willingness to make a move happen, so the Bianconeri could be faced with keeping Pjanic in the end unless one of those two players changes their mind about their destination.
