Juventus attack has a clear shortage of weapons

Juventus are usually known for their defense, but they must rebuild their attack instead of relying on two superstars.

As strange as it is to say, Juventus don’t have enough talent in their attack right now. It’s a strange statement to make, because Juve unequivocally have the best attacking duo in European football right now, as Cristiano Ronaldo was a Capocannoniere candidate, while Paulo Dybala was named Serie A’s MVP for the 2019-2020 season.

While Dybala and Ronaldo are nearly unstoppable, what tends to stop them is the lack of talent around them in the attack. Besides Ronaldo and Dybala, the only player who is remotely a star at the forward positions is Douglas Costa, whose injury issues prevent Juve from being able to rely on him. Hence why he could be headed to a new club this summer.

Meanwhile, Federico Bernardeschi has proven that he simply isn’t good enough to be playing for Juve, lacking in technical quality and intelligent off-ball movement. He fails to clear out space for Dybala and Ronaldo and cannot effectively help feed the superstar forwards.

More from Old Juve

At striker, Juve might be even worse. Gonzalo Higuain is on his way out, and he simply isn’t good enough to be playing meaningful minutes for a club as big as Juventus with ambitions of winning a Champions League title.

The Bianconeri’s No. 1 goal is to win the Champions League, No. 2 is to win a 10th straight Scudetto, and then No. 3 is to keep Ronaldo happy. None of those goals can be achieved without more star power in the attack, specifically at the striker position.

Arkadiusz Milik is a start. Dejan Kulusevski, the best young player in the entire league, would be an even bigger help to the Old Lady of Turin.

But is that enough? Milik is a quality Serie A striker, but he’s not one of the best strikers in the league.

At Juventus, a striker needs to either be one of the best scorers, or they must be able to set up effectively for others. The latter is especially important with Ronaldo on the left wing. Look no further than the success he had at Real Madrid with Karim Benzema.

Juventus had two weapons in the attack last season – Ronaldo and Dybala. And they are literally the two best players in all of Serie A.

The problem is that the team needs more to be highly competitive.. Juve need a creator in midfield and someone in the attack who can add some level of star power, including assists. Juve need someone who can have 10 assists in a season to feed Ronaldo and Dybala up top. And then on top of all that, they need depth.

Next. Juventus must focus on Lyon. dark

Ronaldo and Dybala are the nucleus, and now it’s time for the Bianconeri to do the rest and surround them with the right pieces this summer.
