There are clubs trying to sign Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, but the Old Lady of Turin isn’t having it.

Juventus know they need to make some big moves in the summer 2020 transfer window, and they have already made one key upgrade for the future by swapping Miralem Pjanic for Barcelona’s Arthur Melo. There’s still some work to be doing in upgrading the midfield, but Arthur and Rodrigo Bentancur can be two key players for years to come.

But while Juve are busy trying to acquire young talent to their midfield, other clubs in Europe have shown interest in prying away their best current midfielder in Bentancur.

According to Fabrizio Romano in Calciomercato, FC Barcelona did everything they could to acquire Rodrigo Bentancur this summer during the negotiations between both clubs for the Arthur and Pjanic swap. Barça wanted Juve to give up Bentancur in order to get Arthur.

Thankfully, the Bianconeri stood firm and said no. Even when offered 50 million euros for Bentancur, per Romano, the club has declined every transfer offer sent their way from other big clubs.

Juventus know that Bentancur is a huge part of the team’s future and even their current success. No player on the Bianconeri assisted more frequently than Bentancur, who provided seven assists for his teammates in the 2019-2020 Serie A season.

The 23-year-old is only getting better, especially on the offensive end. Defensively, he works so hard for his team and is probably the best defensive player in the midfield for Juve right now, which is huge considering some of the struggles of his teammates.

Maurizio Sarri and the club still have to figure out if Bentancur is truly a regista or not, but they have already figured out that he’s an important part of their plans going forward.

He, Arthur, and Adrien Rabiot could very well be a strong starting midfield trio in 2020-2021, with Bentancur providing a lot running and defensive work to support those two more attacking players.

Juventus won’t stop pursuing other midfielders to upgrade their team, but they know they have a a star player in Bentancur. While 50 million euros is a decent sum of money, Bentancur is worth more than that to this club. It is important for them to continue to rebuff any and all offers for Bentancur, including those from clubs like Barcelona that also involve other talented young players in a swap deal. Bentancur fits this team too well.
