Juventus want to sign a new striker for the 2020-2021 season, and Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette is one of their targets.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Paulo Dybala form one of European football’s most dynamic duos in the attack, but Juventus know they must offer both star players more help. Due to injuries, Douglas Costa hasn’t had the desired impact, while Federico Bernardeschi doesn’t seem to be a good enough player. Dybala has become a star striker for the Bianconeri, but they need a superior option to Gonzalo Higuain behind him.

There are a number of players who have been linked to Juve so far, including Wolverhampton’s Raul Jimenez and Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik. But the most intriguing possible striker signing is Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette, who could potentially leave North London this summer.

It won’t be easy for Juventus to sign Lacazette, and they will likely approach him with a swap deal. That appears to their M.O. this summer.

According to a report from The Athletic, the Bianconeri are prepared to offer any of the following three players to sign Lacazette: fellow striker Higuain, right winger Douglas Costa, or defender Cristian Romero.

Juventus should expect Arsenal to ask for a better offer

And Juventus should expect Arsenal to ask for a better deal. Costa probably won’t interest Arsenal, because he’s injury-prone and the team already has eyes on the free Willian. In all honesty, Willian is a player they can rely on more, and they only need him as a backup to Nicolas Pepe anyway.

Higuain is done at this level. For Arsenal, he would be subtraction by addition. Arsenal are a young team with ambitions under Mikel Arteta, and Higuain would honestly stand in the way of that movement.

Romero could possibly help Arsenal, but they don’t need to waste their time on a defender who may not be an upgrade for them. If the Gunners are to acquire players from Juventus while parting ways with a very good striker, then they will want someone who can actually make a difference for them.

None of these players should truly interest the Premier League side, which means Juventus must come up with something better. They could involve Costa or Romero in the deal, but if they do, they would have to part ways with more cash than they want to.

Juve would like to do swap deals, but there’s a reason why teams aren’t clamoring for most of their players. The Bianconeri are paying a lot of older, mediocre players too much money, and with so many other clubs wanting to save money this summer due to COVID-19, Juve are in a tough spot when it comes to using those same players to acquire, for example, a starting-caliber forward.

The club needs to be realistic about what they can get and what constitutes a valid offer. Lacazette is approaching the age of 30, but he can be a great striker in Serie A. Last season, he had 10 goals and four assists in under 2,000 Premier League minutes. None of the players they are offering had anywhere near that type of production.
