Juventus defeated Sampdoria 2-0 on Serie A’s Matchday 20, producing yet another comprehensive display as a follow-up from their Coppa Italia victory over SPAL. As you’d expect, Sampdoria made things tougher than SPAL did, but Juve were still able to see out the win defensively, with credit to Giorgio Chiellini’s heroics.

Here are the player ratings from another Bianconeri win.

GK Wojciech Szczesny

A comfortable day for the star goalkeeper in between the sticks. Szczesny was very composed on the ball as well.

Rating: 6.5 out of 10

LB Danilo

According to WhoScored.com, Danilo recorded three interceptions and completed about 92 percent of his passes. He did an excellent job holding down the fort on the left-hand side, winning a lot of individual battles in the corner. Danilo is having an excellent season.

CB Giorgio Chiellini

The clear Man of the Match, though Arthur Melo also had a great game. Giorgio Chiellini is not washed-up by any stretch of the imagination, because his only issue is the dreaded injury bug. Otherwise, when he is healthy, the 36-year-old is excellent. He cleaned up everything and put his body on the line, sending Juventini into a frenzy with his goal-saving block on Fabio Quagliarella which will surely be Serie A’s highlight of the week.

Rating: 8.5 out of 10

CB Leonardo Bonucci

Meanwhile, Leonardo Bonucci wasn’t quite as impressive as his long-time center back partner, though he does tend to be less mistake-prone with Chiellini by his side. Bonucci had two tackles with four interceptions and a pass completion percentage similar to Danilo’s. Overall, it was a good day at the office for Bonucci.

More from Old Juve

RB Juan Cuadrado

Rounding out the back four was another solid display from Juan Cuadrado. The Colombian wide man has been excellent in the 2020-2021 season for the Zebras, and he was looking lively on the ball with seven crosses. Cuadrado ended the match with his 11th assist of the season.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

CM Rodrigo Bentancur

How about that? Rodrigo Bentancur is starting to find his best form again, and while we must wait for him to develop true consistency, it was good to see him making much more incisive passes on Matchday 20 than in his previous games this season. That said, his discipline is a problem, as he will miss next weekend’s match against Roma after picking up a fifth yellow card.

Rating: 7.0 out of 10

CM Arthur Melo

Arthur Melo looks like a home-run signing for Juventus, though that comes as no surprise to Juventini who were ecstatic when the club traded Miralem Pjanic to Barcelona for him. There have been some rough patches, but Arthur is truly starting to click under Andrea Pirlo now. He was more progressive with his movement in this win. Arthur completed three dribbles, won three fouls, and was accurate on over 96 percent of his attempts.

Rating: 8.0 out of 10

RM Weston McKennie

The American midfielder started wide right in this matchup, and that’s another comfortable position for the versatile Schalke loanee. Weston McKennie was world-class defensively, dominating the pitch with six tackles and four interceptions. He chipped in offensively, too, with two key passes, as he looked to push up the pitch with Juan Cuadrado on the right-hand side.

Rating: 8.0 out of 10

LM Federico Chiesa

Federico Chiesa did so well to keep on moving and seamlessly convert Alvaro Morata’s lovely squared ball across the six-yard box. The Fiorentina loanee cannot stop scoring for Juventus in 2021, and he led the team with three key passes this Saturday evening.

Rating: 7.5 out of 10

FW Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo did not score, and it sometimes seems like he’s pushing too much to score. But that’s not a bad thing nor a surprise, considering the mentality the 35-year-old has. Ronaldo did a lot of positive work on the ball, but he was clearly not the star of the show for Juventus in this one.

FW Alvaro Morata

A brilliant assist from Alvaro Morata, who remains the team’s leader in assists in Serie A. The Spanish striker has been an absolute gift for the Bianconeri, and while this wasn’t his most influential game, he deserves top marks for the assist to give Juve an early lead.
