Milan Škriniar (CB)

Many would argue that Alessandro Bastoni and Stefan de Vrij had a better season in Serie A than Milan Škriniar. But, when it comes to becoming a dominative figure and an example for others, we would give Milan Škriniar the nod over the aforementioned two.

Škriniar played 32 matches in Serie A for Inter, getting booked just one time, which was his only yellow card in the title-winning campaign for Inter. Out of the blue, he also scored three goals for the Nerazzurri.

His commendable attitude, while defending, and the ability to keep his head cool convinced the fans that this Inter side would finish the season with the best defensive record. And so did happen, with Inter keeping 14 clean sheets having conceded just 35 goals — three fewer than Juventus’ 38. Collectively, their defensive organisation was very solid.

Cristian Romero (CB)

The most influential defender of the Atalanta side in the 2020-21 season, Cristian Romero has already received much praise from media, pundits and neutral viewers and immense attention from several clubs across the continent. Then again, it is not a false alarm, but we certainly know why there is a massive fuss in regard to his development.

The 23-year-old Argentine centre-back, per the stats from Whoscored.com, completed the most interceptions of 3.1 per 90 minutes in the Italian top division, earning 31 appearances within the three-man Atalanta defence. Other than his impressive interception stat, Romero recorded 2.3 per match and a passing accuracy of 86.2 per cent, which is also remarkable.

It would not be that of a huge shock if Romero, currently on loan from Juventus, ends up playing football outside Italy next season, with clubs from England also monitoring the situation of the defensive prodigy.
