#2 Mattia Perin

Juventus’ goalkeeping situation was not as complicated a year ago as it is today. With Gianluigi Buffon leaving the club this summer, the club will miss that extra ounce of experience in the dressing room next term. And in the middle of all this, there are also reports linking Juventus’ current No.1 Wojciech Szczęsny with a move away from Allianz Stadium. So, where does Mattia Perin stand in the mess?

Spending the 2020-21 season on loan at Genoa, the Italian international is set to return to Juventus following his successful loan spell in the capital of northwest Italy’s Liguria region. Pein, as per the stats from FBref.com, recorded a successful save percentage of 75.3, which makes him the second most efficient goalkeeper of the Serie A after Napoli’s David Ospina last season.

At 28, he will be looking to play regularly and get the status of Juve’s No. 1 goalkeeper. But, that seems to be highly unlikely under Massimiliano Allegri, with Juventus reportedly edging closer to securing the signing of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who would always be the favourite for the starting pace in the Turin-based club.

Therefore, leaving the club for regular football could be the way forward for Mattia Perin, even if Juventus lose both Buffon and Szczęsny in the same transfer window. Mattia Perin is too talented to be the second-choice goalkeeper of any club in the world.
