Massimiliano Allegri could recall Nicolo Rovella from his Genoa loan as he attempts to rejuvenate Juventus’ midfield in January.

Juventus signed young Rovella from Genoa last winter in a rather complex swap deal that saw Manolo Portanova move in the opposite direction. Rovella was immediately loaned back to the Rossoblù for the remainder of the 2020/21 campaign and it was agreed he’d spend the 2021/22 season at his former club as well.

Despite Genoa’s woes this term, Rovella’s enjoyed a fine start to the Serie A season. The 19-year-old has started every league game to start the campaign, notching three assists in the process.

Rovella’s impressive and mature form for Genoa may have convinced Allegri and Juventus to recall him in January.

The Bianconeri are keen to bolster their midfield in the next transfer window with previous free agent arrivals Aaron Ramsey and Adrien Rabiot likely to depart. Both have been courted by Newcastle United, although the latter apparently has his sights on Real Madrid. Good luck with that, Adrien.

Juve have identified several midfield targets for January and Calciomercato.com (via @JuveFC) understand that their favoured option is €40m-rated Aurélien Tchouaméni from Monaco. However, Juve are reluctant to match the French club’s asking price because they want to invest heavily in Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic next year. The Serbian striker could cost the club upwards of €60m.

Thus, a cheaper alternative could be to recall Rovella from his Genoa loan. The teenager is yet to suit up for Juventus, but his form this season looks to have convinced his parent club that he’s ready to return to Turin prematurely and provide cover to the likes of Manuel Locatelli and Weston McKennie in midfield.

"“I know they are following me but I have to deserve a possible return to Juventus by doing well here. I’m focused on Genoa since I’m playing a lot, I’d like to continue with Genoa until the end of the season,” – Rovella on a possible Juventus return in January."

However, it’s unclear whether the two clubs agreed to a recall clause in the loan deal. Last week, Romeo Agresti said that the pair had not spoken over an early return and Rovella was expected to complete the 2021/22 season with Genoa.
