A desperate Juventus slowly entering crisis mode are in need of three points when they travel to the lowly Salernitana on Tuesday night.

The Bianconeri’s 1-0 defeat to Atalanta on Saturday evening rounded off a miserable week for the club, with its hierarchy embroiled in a false accounting investigation. Then, after La Dea extended their lead over Juve to seven points in the table following Saturday’s win, the club revealed that star man Federico Chiesa will miss the rest of the year with a hamstring problem.

However, following a challenging run of fixtures, Juventus can take solace in knowing that four of their five remaining Serie A fixtures of the calendar year come against sides currently positioned 16th or lower in the table.

For this Bianconeri side, though, every game will be a slog and nothing can be taken for granted.

Tuesday’s opponents, Salernitana, are bringing up the rear in Serie A after 14 games having accumulated just eight points. Last time out, they picked up a point on the road to fellow relegation candidates Cagliari with Federico Bonazzoli striking late on.

Here’s our preview of Tuesday night’s Serie A encounter.

Cedric Gondo is unlikely to be fit after picking up a knock in the draw with Cagliari. Franck Ribery’s knee injury is likely to rule him out, Matteo Ruggeri is also missing.

In Gondo’s absence, Simy, who starred for Crotone last season, will partner Bonazzoli up top for Serie A’s lowest scorers.

Juventus Team News

Juventus were dealt two big blows in the defeat to Atalanta as both Federico Chiesa and Weston McKennie hobbled off injured. The former has been ruled out for the rest of the year with a hamstring injury, while the latter’s knee issue will be monitored daily. McKennie won’t make the trip on Tuesday, however.

Allegri confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Mattia De Sciglio isn’t quite ready to return, meaning we should see Juan Cuadrado deputise at right-back. Luca Pellegrini is expected to come in for Alex Sandro, with Giorgio Chiellini also in contention to start.

The manager heaped the praise on Alvaro Morata despite his struggles against Merih Demiral at the weekend, so the Spaniard’s expected to retain his place in the XI.

The hosts will be buoyed by their late point in Sardinia on Friday and the stats suggest they’ve been somewhat unlucky this season. While they’re the league’s lowest scorers, scoring just six times, they’ve notched a 10.1 expected goals haul, which ranks 13th in Serie A. They’ve also conceded 23 times despite being expected to concede 18.1.

Nevertheless, inefficiency in attack and a porous defence is a pitiful combination that screams relegation. Surely Juventus can’t fumble this one?

While the Bianconeri will be without Chiesa and recent star McKennie, the visitors, despite Allegri’s inhibiting system, still have enough to beat Serie A’s poorest outfit. It won’t be easy, nothing is for Juventus these days, but a huge three points will make their way back to Turin.

Prediction: Salernitana 0-1 Juventus
