Weston McKennie has reportedly made a swift recovery from his knee injury and is in contention to play against Genoa on Sunday.

The American picked up a minor ligament injury in the defeat to Atalanta last Saturday and after undergoing tests at J-Medical on Monday, the club said they would monitor the midfielder daily.

It was an untimely setback for McKennie, who impressed in November, but it seems that he’s already set to make a return to first-team action.

McKennie missed Tuesday’s victory in Salernitana as Rodrigo Bentancur reclaimed his spot in the midfield alongside the ever-present Manuel Locatelli.

Ahead of Tuesday’s win, coach Massimiliano Allegri described McKennie’s knee injury as a “small thing” and he expected his dynamic midfielder to return to action soon. His return could come this weekend as Juventus play host to Andriy Shevchenko’s Genoa in Serie A.

According to JuventusNews24, McKennie “should” be available for Sunday night’s clash with Allegri also poised to welcome Mattia De Sciglio back to his matchday squad. The versatile full-back has been out for a month with the hamstring injury he sustained in the 2-1 home to defeat to Sassuolo.

For Juventus, the return of the aforementioned pair is a big boost ahead of a busy but paradoxically kind domestic run to end the calendar year.

Both McKennie and De Sciglio were in great form before they picked up their respective knocks, and their returns will only benefit a Bianconeri side that showed signs of life from an attacking perspective in the victory over Salernitana in the week.

However, Bentancur’s impressive display in Salerno could see him retain his place on Sunday, while De Sciglio certainly isn’t guaranteed an immediate return into Allegri’s XI. Luca Pellegrini put in another bright performance on Tuesday, with Juan Cuadrado benefitting from a more proactive and dynamic approach from the manager.
