Juventus are seriously considering a move for impending free agent Angel Di Maria this summer, with talks set to continue with the Argentine’s entourage.

Reports over the Bianconeri pursuing a move for the Paris Saint-Germain star emerged at the end of April, and Romeo Agresti added on Friday that Juve are currently weighing up the possibility.

Whether Juventus view Di Maria as a short-term replacement for his departing compatriot Paulo Dybala is not yet clear, but there’s no doubting that the Argentine will fill a gaping creative need in the Juventus dressing room.

Despite his talent, the addition of a 34-year-old forward will undoubtedly divide the fanbase considering the infatuation of many for Juventus to begin the process of bringing through some of their own.

Juventus’ budget for the summer is unknown, but the need to hasten their rebuild has become clear this season and there’s no doubting that the club will be looking to bolster several positions this summer.

The impending exit of Giorgio Chiellini means another centre-back is now required after Federico Gatti was signed in January, while reinforcements at left-back must surely be on the agenda. The club are also poised to make a big splash in midfield with Paul Pogba and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic linked.

Thus, plenty of cash is needed in the kitty to suffice supporters and the addition of a free agent will aid Juve’s ability to spend big elsewhere.

Considering that he’ll cost nothing (wages obviously excluded), some might regard Di Maria’s signing as a risk-free one.
