The 2023 Serie A season is set to begin in less than two weeks. In order to prepare for the first kickoff, we are going to be doing a dive into the players on the roster and what we should expect from them this season. The first player we’re going to look at is the first-team keeper: Wojciech Szczęsny.
Szczęsny has been a great keeper for the Bianconeri since he joined the squad in 2017. It took him a few years to take the reigns away from Juventus legend Gianluigi Buffon, but once he did, he never looked back. There should be zero doubt in Max Allegri’s mind that he is not the keeper of the now and the future.
Since joining Juventus, Szczęsny has been one of the keepers in the world.
He has put together 145 appearances over his Juventus career. While in goal, he has proven time and again that he is one of the better keepers in the world. While he did have some injuries, it’s reasonable to expect Szczęsny to be ready to go each week.
Season Expectations
It should be a given that Szczęsny should be the first-team goalkeeper and should only get rest in the early stages of the Coppa Italia. With no European competition this year, he should be getting a ton of action. Yet, that’s the life of the first team keeper. Szczęsny has shown that he is more than capable of handling those duties again this year. He should be expected to be dominant in the net, assuming his defense plays up to par.
