The Scudetto chase remains, there’s a battle to avoid joining relegated Monza in Serie B, with the race for the fourth and final Champions League berth next term still wide open.
Table-topping Napoli lie a single point ahead of Inter Milan, with both teams guaranteed a place in the 2025/26 Champions League.
Atalanta should finish in third spot yet could end as runner-up, leaving the final position for Europe’s leading club competition down to one out of five clubs.
AC Milan, AS Roma, Bologna, Juventus and Lazio are all in the mix to be involved in the highly lucrative Champions League. There are just five points dividing fourth-placed Juve from Milan in eighth spot.
Yet there’s still the Europa League for finishing fifth, and a Conference League qualifier to navigate for ending the season in sixth.
Juve have the upper hand to net Champions League soccer, especially with their fixtures. The Bianconeri will tackle out of form Udinese in their last home game of the season, then travel to relegation-threatened Venezia.
As Serie A rules stipulate that teams are separated in the league by their head-to–head records initially, should Juventus pick up maximum points from their final two matches then they cannot be overtaken.
Lazio left behind
Lazio lie on the same number of points as Juventus. The Bianconeri beat Lazio 1-0 last October, with the sides finishing 1-1 last weekend.
Manager Marco Baroni will need to fire up his Lazio squad for the tricky encounter at Inter on Sunday, before closing the campaign at home to lowly Lecce.
Roma had been in red-hot form under Claudio Ranieri, to become Juve’s closest challengers. They experienced a rare wobble to taste a 2-1 defeat to Atalanta last Monday. Roma host Milan this weekend, and will see the season out at Torino.
Bologna had been buoyant until recent weeks of stuttering league form. Vincenzo Italiano, who took over as head coach after Thiago Motta joined Juve last June, won the coveted Coppa Italia this week courtesy of a slender 1-0 success over Milan.
The club will be brimming with extra confidence ahead of facing Fiorentina and Genoa.
AC Milan upsurge
Milan have experienced an indifferent campaign under Sergio Conceicao since he was appointed manager last December. They appeared to drop out of the race for European soccer, but a recent upturn in form has elevated them as outsiders for Champions League qualification.
They travel to Roma on Sunday and polish off the season against already relegated Monza.
With rock bottom Monza destined for Serie B action next term, there are a staggering six sides that could join them.
Cagliari and Hellas Verona look pretty safe on 33 points, things look promising for Parma (32pts), but the writing's on the wall for two clubs from the trio of Venezia (29pts) plus Empoli and Lecce (28pts).
There may only be two Serie A games remaining this term, but Italian soccer fans can expect the usual end of season of twists and turns.
