Kolo Muani, last season’s successful loanee from Paris Saint-Germain, is wanted by head coach Igor Tudor to play alongside goal poacher Jonathan David.

Yet a potential deal has been dragging on, with Juve having set a deadline of 13 August to secure his signature.

The French champions have been playing hard ball, as they prefer to sell their lethal marksmen rather than send him back to Juventus on a season-long loan with a conditional obligation to buy.

Newcastle United, who were scuppered by Manchester United for former Juve target Benjamin Sesko, are exploring signing France international Muani.

Juventus could alter the Premier League’s interest in the 26-year-old as they have once more offered Newcastle the opportunity for a cash swap deal for Sandro Tonali that would see wantaway center forward Dusan Vlahovic and another Juve outcast move in the other direction.

The Turin titans will only finalize a loan agreement, with an obligation to make it permanent for around €45 million (US$52.1m), next week or turn their attention to cheaper options although could fork ou to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson if they can drum up finances from the sales of Douglas Luiz and Vlahovic.

Chelsea star on Juve's radar

Yet any potential deal for Muani, who bagged 10 goals during his short stint with the Serie A side, is proving tricky. Newcastle also have Jackson on their summer transfer shortlist, but Chelsea have slapped an asking price of €60m (US$69.9m).

Newcastle are pursuing a new striker as Alexander Isak is expected to switch to Premier League champions Liverpool within the next couple of weeks, and they are unsure whether Vlahovic would be a suitable successor as a target man.

Vlahovic and Muani were ineffective together as starters, and Juventus could be stuck with the Serbia hot-shot unless a move to AC Milan or Villarreal materializes.

PSG yet to agree to Juventus loan

Bringing Muani back to the Allianz Stadium is a priority for Juventus, but PSG have yet to agree to a loan and will not allow him to be purchased below their valuation.

Although there are continuous discussions between Juve and PSG, there has been no sign of a breakthrough and Juventus remain cash-strapped despite some recent sales and the season-long loan of Timothy Weah to Olympique Marseille.

Any deal relies on PSG’s willingness to compromise over one of their prized assets, and whether Newcastle or another Premier League club will swoop splash the cash on Muani.
