Although bolstering the defence is a priority for Juve, their lack of available funds is causing difficulties, with targets slipping through their fingers as they are financially out of reach.
Although left-back Sergio Reguilon, a Real Madrid youth academy graduate, has been offered to Juventus as a free agent. His contract recently expired at Tottenham Hotspur, where he made 73 Premier League appearances and won the 2024/25 Europa League trophy.
Juve head coach Igor Tudor has certain defenders in this season’s plans, such as the reliable Federico Gatti and Pierre Kalulu as well as the return of Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal from season-long injuries.
With Alberto Costa gone, the club are also trying to offload Lloyd Kelly, last year’s loanee with an obligation to buy, and Filip Kostic. There remains uncertainty surrounding the futures of Tiago Djalo and former Italy international Daniele Rugani.
Verbal bid turned down flat
Tudor had been after center-back Enzo Boyomo, but his club Osasuna rejected a verbal offer of €15 million (US$17.1m), despite being triple the transfer fee they forked out to Real Valladolid a year ago.
The Spanish outfit are demanding a minimum bid of €25m (US$28.5m), the full value of Boyomo’s release clause, to start negotiations directly with the player.
The La Liga club are unwilling to go below this figure as Valladolid hold 10% of any future sale of the twice-capped Cameroon international.
Boyomo’s career kicked off in his home town of Toulouse, before being snapped up to join the youth set-up at Blackburn Rovers in 2016. He was released after a four-year stint, having progressed to the reserve team, and moved as a free agent to Spain.
Albacete senior shot for Boyomo
The 23-year-old joined Albacete Balompie and in his first season the club were relegated from the Segunda Division to the third tier. He played a pivotal role helping them bounce back immediately, and the following season came close to earning the side a La Liga berth.
His displays during Albacete’s successful season attracted admirers and, after 100 appearances, Boyomo went to Valladolid for €2.6m (US$3m) in July. The following summer he was sold for almost double that figure to Osasuna.
With Juve’s hands tied financially until players are sold, which seems a long-drawn out process at the moment, the prospect of bringing in Boyomo before the pre-season friendly at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund looks extremely slim.
