Juve abandoned the potential transfer of a top target last summer due to the high costs involved, despite the constant spend of big bucks for Project Motta.
With the club’s only pre-season fixture arranged for a trip to Borussia Dortmund on 10 August, head coach Igor Tudor will be able to run his eye over 23-year-old Karim Adeyemi.
Juventus should have the cash to splash by the time their friendly takes place, with a plethora of players up for grabs from the Turin titans as part of Tudor’s clear-out.
Clear-out kicks off
There’s serious interest in Alberto Costa, Samuel Mbangula and Timothy Weah that will free up the finances for the Bianconeri.
Adeyemi, who commands only a modest salary compared to many Juve players, has a market value of €45 million (US$52.5m) and a contract that ends in two years.
Although Dortmund are not desperate to sell one of their prized assets, they could be open to significant offers.
Money matters
Juve will most probably have to offer a more lucrative wage to lure Adeyemi from the Bundesliga side to compete with Arsenal, who are also admirers. The Londoners were expected to sign him during the last winter transfer window.
The Premier League club are scrambling around to get their squad sorted before they tackle their pre-season tour in Hong Kong & Singapore, which kicks off on 23 July.
Arsenal were beaten to the signature of left winger Nico Williams by Barcelona, and although they have landed defensive midfielder Martin Zubimendi could still pursue Adeyemi.
Juventus will certainly need more depth in attack if those on the transfer list depart. Waiting until they tackle Borussia in next month’s friendly could prove costly, as the German international has been monitored by Chelsea, Manchester United, Napoli and Newcastle United.
