What’s at stake

Juventus are an elite Serie A side, alongside AC Milan, who are expected to annually compete for the Scudetto. A victory for the Bianconeri could see them top of the table going into the international break, but a defeat could result in slipping to sixth and four behind Max Allegri's Milan.

The Bianconeri netted six successive league home wins at the Allianz Stadium until last week's 1-1 stalemate against Ivan Juric's Atalanta, where the second-half substitutions were uninspiring and seemingly haphazard. They cannot afford to drop points against former Juve manager Allegri.

Allegri has steered his team to league leaders, only ahead of defending champipns Napoli and AS Roma courtesy of goal difference. Things are tight at the top of Serie A, with Atalanta, Bologna and Como also in the mix for a top four finish to secure Champions League soccer next season. With Fiorentina and Lazio having made a stuttering start to the campaign.

Recent form

Juventus are on unbeaten run of 11 games after finishing all square against Atalanta then conceding a last-gasp goal to Villarreal in the Champions League, leaving them on a streak of four draws.

Tudor’s tactical approach will surely be tweaked soon to tighten the defence, having not kept a clean sheet since the tame 1-0 home win over Genoa. The 2-2 midweek stalemate in Spain saw Tudor make rare rotations with his squad, but it is anyone's guess which striker he will start with although Dusan Vlahovic is best suited to appearing as a second-half supersub.

Milan kicked off their campaign with a shock 2-1 defeat to newly-promoted Cremonese at the San Siro, but followed it up with a comfortable 2-0 success at Lecce.

September's formidable form saw the Rossoneri only concede one goal in three Serie A games, which was Kevin De Bruyne's penalty in their 2-1 triumph over Napoli despite being reduced to 10 men just before the hour-mark.

Head-to-head

Oliver Giroud's strike in May 2023 was the last time that Milan scored a league goal against Juventus. The Bianconeri have won two of their past four meetings, and are on a four-match run without conceding against the Rossoneri.

There have been some classic games between Juventus and Milancalsssic games over the years. Bianconeri have registered 69 victories from their 180 encounters with Milan, drawing 58 times and losing 53 contests.

Juventus have won 44 of the 90 clashes played in Turin. Second-half goals from Samuel Mbangula and Timothy Weah steered Juventus to a 2-0 home win over Milan in January, which lifted Thiago Motta's team back into the top four last season.

Team news

Tudor made five changes for the Villarreal contest. He has Gleison Bremer (knee), Juan Cabal (thigh) and Fabio Miretti (thigh) on the treatment table while Francisco Conceicao returns from feeling unwell.

Allegri only has left-back Pervis Estupinan (suspension) missing from his squad, who are buzzing with a dozen points from five Serie A games. He has left winger Rafael Leao and goalkeeper Mike Maignan back from injury.

Luka Modric, aged 40 and a former Croatia team-mate of Tudor's could become the oldest-ever goalscorer against Juventus in Serie A acrion.

Igor Tudor's quotes

“Milan are a top-level team with strong players who are in good form. They may have the advantage of not having played during the week, and we're aware of their quality, but we know our strengths and qualities and we'll put in a good performance by giving everything we've got.

“On the pitch you have to give it your all, you win with the small details, with your heart, with the desire to defend with aggression. I’m trying to improve the team in every aspect, my job is to help them perform at their best.

“The lads have performed better than their opponents in the last two matches, coming close to victory in both games. The team is doing well and I can see them improving. We have had a clear playing identity for six months now and know what we want to do both when we have the ball and when we don't.”

Expected line-ups

Juventus possible starting XI:

Di Gregorio - Gatti, Kalulu, Kelly - Mario, Thuram, Locatelli, Cambiaso - Conceicao, Yildiz - David

AC Milan possible starting XI:

Maignan - Tomori, Gabbia, Pavlovic - Leao, Fofana, Modric, Rabiot, Saelemaekers - Pulisic, Gimenez

Old Juve prediction

Juventus 0 AC Milan 2

Tudor's troops have been shaky at the back, and with Milan seeking to net five Serie A wins on the bounce for the first time since April 2024 this looks like being Juve's first defeat this term.

Confidence has been dented among the Juventus squad by four consecutive draws, the usual starting line-ups and disorderly substitutions. Allegri is a tactician who adapts his teams to tackle the opposition, while Tudor's tactical approach is rigid and predictable.
