What’s at stake
Juve are in pole position to secure a top four finish, which will secure involvement in the highly-lucrative Champions League.
The Bianconeri lead fifth-placed AS Roma by a single point and sit two points ahead of sixth-placed Lazio. Roma travel to Turin to tackle Torino, while Lazio host lowly Lecce.
Venezia, who have collected just two victories in their past 10 games, seek maximum points to stand any chance of avoiding the drop to Serie B.
Yet the Lagunari need results to favor them with five clubs in the mix to lose their top-flight status. Monza were relegated following their 2-0 defeat to Juventus this month
Recent form
Juve have picked up maximum points against Lecce, Monza and Udinese in their past six matches. Their only slip-up was the shock 1-0 reversal at lowly Parma. Scoring has been an on-going problem this calendar year, which interim Tudor has tried to fix to no avail.
Yet last weekend’s convincing 2-0 triumph over Udinese, when the Turin fans roared on the most attack-minded display since Tudor took the helm in late March, points towards a new-found confidence.
Juventus have surprisingly failed to register an away win under Tudor’s tutelage. Their last success on their travels was the stuttering 1-0 victory at Cagliari in February, when Dusan Vlahovic bagged the winner.
Venezia’s recent home form saw them hold Lazio and Napoli to scoreless draws, defeat Fiorentina and Monza but lose to AC Milan and Bologna.
Their inability to score, notching just three goals from their past six matches on home turf, has resulted in Venezia remaining in the dreaded drop zone.
Victory for Venezia over Juve would mean that they would achieve back-to-back Serie A wins inside the Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo for the first time in 25 years.
Head-to-head
Venezia manager Eusebio Di Francesco will be aiming to perform the great escape. Yet he will have to rely on results on other teams, as well as mastermind the club’s first top-flight home win over Juventus since April 1962.
The last encounter between these sides was a thrilling 2-2 spectacle at the Allianz Stadium, with Vlahovic grabbing the equaliser courtesy of a last-gasp spot-kick.
Venezia held visiting Juve to a 1-1 stalemate in their last meeting in Venice, which was four years ago. While Juventus won 2-1 at home in their May 2022 league encounter.
Juventus have only lost twice to Venezia in their 27 Serie A meetings, both in Venice. The Bianconeri tasted a 2-0 upset in 1942, and in the last game of the 1961/62 campaign were thumped 3-0.
Team news
Tudor looks likely to once more shuffle his pack because of injuries and the suspension of Pierre Kalulu.
Right-back Nicolo Savona and midfielder Khephren Thuram return to the squad, having missed last week’s win over Udinese following a one-match suspension for accumulating disciplinary points.
Yet Juve’s defensive line has more concerns with Chelsea loanee Renato Veiga forced to train separately on Friday morning because of a muscle injury. Long-term defensive duo Gleison Bremer and Juan Cabal remain sidelined along with striker Arkadiusz Milik (calf). Attacking midfielder Teun Koopmeiners (Achilles tendon) is not expected to feature.
Venezia have four absentees from their 30-player squad, center-back Michael Svoboda (cruciate ligament tear) season ended in December, midfield pair Cheick Conde (broken fibula) and Alfred Duncan (muscular problems) are injured while influential defender Jay Idzes is suspended.
Shotstopper Filip Stankovic has been on the bench for the past four games following a partial patellar tendon tear injury in February. Former Romania international Andrei Radu has since taken over duties, keeping four clean sheets but conceding 15 goals in his 14 appearances.
Players to watch
Juventus — Kenan Yildiz
There seems no stopping the Turkish talent, who has gone from strength to strength this term. Tudor has helped him find his groove, while Juve have repeatedly issued a hands off policy to a clutch of Premier League teams.
With Tudor’s attacking formation paying dividends against Udinese, Yildiz is expected to add firepower and maybe cap his breakthrough season with a goal or two.
The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup finals are likely to prove the litmus test of how much Yildiz has developed, and if he can score in the final Serie A game of the campaign then he’ll be brimming with even more confidence.
Venezia — Andrei Radu
Signed from Inter Milan in February following an injury to the first-choice ‘keeper Stankovic, he has been an ever present and pretty spectacular between the sticks.
Having endured a torrid season-long loan spell at AFC Bournemouth before signing a short-term deal with Venezia, the 27-year-old will be seeking a new club when his contract expires at the end of June.
Scouts are expected for this encounter, to check out numerous Juve players but Radu has a golden opportunity to catch the eye. He was linked with Saudi Pro League Al-Shabab FC earlier this year, but another impressive performance should help him find a European club.
Expected line-ups
Juventus possible starting XI:
Di Gregorio; Costa, Gatti, Savona, Cambiaso; Locatelli, Thuram; Gonzalez, Conceicao, Yildiz; Vlahovic
Venezia possible starting XI:
Radu; Schingtienne, Haps, Cande; Zerbin, Perez, Caviglia, Busio, Ellertsson; Yeboah, Gytkjaer
Old Juve prediction
Venezia 0 Juventus 2
A win for either team is vital, and for Juve to be involved in the Champions League is a real money-spinner. Confidence and self-belief should be the deciding factors, which would seem to give Juventus the edge in this clash.
Former AS Roma manager Di Francesco has introduced some adventurous and attacking displays, while keeping opponents at bay. His only blip was last weekend’s 3-0 demolition job at the hands of Davide Nicola’s Cagliari in Sardinia, so their self-esteem will be bruised.
Over the past two seasons Juve have won and kept a clean sheet on the final day of the league campaign. If Tudor sticks to a back four, then Juventus could equal their 1980 to 1982 record of registering three clean successive sheets on the final day of the Serie A season.
