Weston McKennie signed a contract extension with Juventus on Friday, that keeps him with the Serie A club until June 2026. However, one pundit believes this is a financial move from the Old Lady to ensure they can sell him.

Following a departure that saw McKennie go out on loan to Leeds United in 2023, many would assume that the American midfielder's future wasn't in Turin. Still, with a new manager Thiago Motta arriving, the 25-year-old has a fresh start. As a result, an extension came his way.

A new deal should mean that Juventus see the former FC Dallas star as part of their future under Motta. Nonetheless, one pundit isn't a fan of the extension because the purpose isn't sporting-related in his mind.

Herculez Gomez: 'This is all finances'

On the latest episode of ESPN's Futbol Americas, Herculez Gomez stated that the Serie A side want to cash in on the player and the new contract is solely for that purpose.

"This is all finances," Gomez said. "How many times have we seen this with Weston McKennie? It's rinse and repeat when it comes to Juventus and Weston McKennie.

"Every single season, there are people in that board who see a paycheck, who see dollar signs and think, 'We could sell this. We could sell him. There is something here. Let's dangle him in front of other clubs,' and they don't come to an agreement, and he's on the out."

McKennie joined the Italian club from Schalke 04 in 2021 and the American midfielder has appeared in 134 matches across all competitions, scoring 13 goals and registering 15 assists.
